PCM.daily Graphics Contest: Rules and support
haasje33
In the next few days, the_hoyle and I (haasje33) will set up a new graphics contest. The main idea is to have a contest not only for jerseys, but also for other types of graphics, like accessories, NC jerseys and equipment.

The contest will be divided in two parts: jerseypacks, including accessories and NC jerseys, which will be made in the first month. It won’t be mandatory to create full jerseypacks, but it’ll give you a better chance at winning the contest since the completeness part of the voting system. In the second month the contest will be to create equipment for the winning jerseypack of the previous month. Regarding equipment, it is mandatory to create one bike and one helmet. Wheels and glasses are optional additions. Next to the equipment contest in the second month, we’ll also start a new contest for a jerseypack. That means that we’ll have 2 contests every month.

Mandatory main sponsors

Every other month, we will decide which sponsor has to be used as main sponsor for the jerseypack. For example, if we pick PCM.daily as the main sponsor, all jerseys that are submitted in that month should have PCM.daily as main sponsor. The secondary sponsors are free to choose. We might also choose clothing or equipment sponsors, but most of the time those will be free to choose as well.

PCM2016 sizes

To prepare for the release of PCM2016 in about a month, any graphics entered in the contest have to be in the sizes for PCM2016, which are as follows:

Jersey1200x826
Bottle234x256
Corsair384x150
Gloves400x464
Handles384x300
Leggings384x238
Shoes928x288
Socks672x142
Transfert_av182x122
Transfert_ar210x138

The sizes for equipment are still the same as in PCM2015.

Entering rules

1. Max. 3 submissions
2. No swapping allowed
3. Only submit your own jerseys
4. Only submit jerseys created in the month of the contest (jerseys made in the voting period of the previous month are allowed as well)
5. Fantasy jerseys only (real jerseys or jerseys with a design too similar to real teams will be denied)
6. All graphics need to be in the sizes for PCM2016

How to apply your work

You can apply your work by posting it in that month’s contest thread. Graphics can be applied from the 1st until the 24th of the month.
You should post the main jersey, then the NCs and accessories (if you’ve done them) in a spoiler and a screenshot of the main jersey in-game or from the Cyclist Editor.

New voting system

After the application is closed, everyone will be able to vote from the 25th until the end of the month. You can vote by grading your favorite (or all) submitted graphics. You can grade them in different categories with a score from 1 to 10. That way not only will the voting be more balanced, but the artists also will receive more feedback on their graphics, which gives them great insight in their abilities and more importantly, where they can improve their future work. In the end the grades for each category will lead to an average score. The submission with the highest average score will win. If 2 or more submissions are tied, the separate scores will be decisive in the order as shown below.

Grading categories for jerseypacks
1. Jersey design
2. Choice of colors
3. Realism of sponsor choice (even with the picked sponsor packs the secondary sponsors will be free to pick)
4. NC designs
5. Design of accessories
6. Completeness of the pack (have you included accessories and NCs, how many have you included and are they all of the same quality)
7. In-game looks

Grading categories for equipment
1. Bike design (if multiple were made, a main one will be picked by us, which will be the one that has to be graded. You can of course send in multiple applications)
2. Helmet design (same as above)
3. Choice of colors (you can choose the main colors of the winning jersey, but the challenge is to create something that stands out and still matches with the design)
4. Completeness of the pack (did you include wheels, glasses or multiple bike/helmet designs)

Rewards

Each month, the winners will receive a userbar, which they can place in their signature. Next to that, we’ll make a ranking based on the amount of wins. The top 3, as well as the best newcomer, at the end of the year will receive a special edition userbar.

Next to the userbars, the contest will also result in some nice PR for your work in general, which will most likely result in more downloads and requests.

Plagiarism: what’s allowed and what’s not allowed?

The final note for the announcement is a serious warning. To put it short: it’s not allowed to use, edit or change graphics made by other designers. Even when you mention them in your credits, it’s not allowed to enter the contest with these graphics. The only thing you are allowed to use are stitches made by others.

If you do try to enter the contest with (parts of) graphics made by others, there will be consequences. Depending on how much you’ve copied over and how many times you’ve tried, you’ll get banned from the contest for one month to life. We’ll keep close contact with the key graphics designers of the different communities to make sure that everything in the contest is authentic.

That leaves us only one thing: wishing you guys good luck in the contest. May the best designs win!

Both paint-overs and new designs are allowed, it's up to the members to decide what they like best.

I would allow to choose between some different sponsors, so DB makers can use more than one shirt from the contest in their DBs Wink

But it's up to you

That's why we're doing it every other month (so for example in month 1 you'll be free to pick your sponsors and in month 2 we'll pick the sponsors).

So the other six days you can't put anything online, as it will be not allowed

How would one know the main colours or brand of the winning jersey if the contest is still going on? Wink

Also, a little concerned about paint-overs

We see how "pissy" things get when people copy parts of maillots such as patterns and logo's , how do you ensure the same principles apply for equipment?

People should be required to to use original game nifs or nifs /uvmaps they have redesigned.

Maillots makers are required to start from scratch, it only makes sense for equipment to be from scratch.

Challenge the designers to create frames, wheels and especially helmets that are new to the peleton, not paint-overs of the ones I designed so long ago and are still hanging about.

And seriously, the glasses being used in these databases are ones I designed for PCM11. Time to get new designs

I will closely follow this part of the thread and hope to see designers who are serious about becoming designers so I can retire in peace.

The equipment contest will be held the month after the jersey contest.

gotcha, still would be awesome to challenge people with designing new equipment.

You guys are doing a great job updating the expansion pack equipment ,meaning frames. This would be a great way to introduce new equipment not just re-hashing old stuff, thus alleviating some of the burden from you.
