This might be a rather stupid question, but anyways. (:
What exactly does the prologue stat do? (I don't know if it's translated like that, my game is in Dutch. The stat underneath TT.)
Does is mean how well a rider is able to ride his first race of every tour, or is it purely linked to TT? Basically, what makes a rider excelling in Prologues good?
A prologue is a very sort timetrial (maximum around 7 kilometers) mostly at the beginning of a tour. Riders with a high prologue stat will be very good at these very short timetrials, the can be timetrial specialists (martin, cancellara,...) or classics riders (like van avermaet, sagan,...) or even sprinters like for exemple kittel.
A prologue differs from a TT in terms of distance, mostly. It`s usually somewhere between 5 and 7 km, which means people who aren`t proficient in TT, but can hold a high pace for a short while, can also win it. So it`s a mixed bag of specialists who are good at riding prologues.
Some sprinters are strong enough to be able to do some long-distance semi-sprint which is why some sprinters score high on prologue. And if I`m not mistaken, Cavendish or Kittel started out as a TT specialist in their early days before they switched to sprinter, so they know how to balance that. It gives them a nice advantage in a prologue because of that.
Once these TT grow longer, they can`t compete anymore because it`s a very concentrated high burst they can release only over a short distance. There`s a reason why there are TT specialists after all
And oh - prologue is a proper translation for proloog
Prologue is a short itt(up to 10km) which is opening the stage race(stage before stage 1). In game it's how rider will do in prologues and in first few kms of long timetrials.
