Transfer Advice
ringo182
Hi all

I'm almost at the 21st June in my Sky career and so am about to start my contract negotiations with riders I want to keep and riders I want to bring in. I've got my lists of riders to sign, riders to keep and riders to let go.

It's been a while since I got to this stage in a season so am just after a little advice.

Is it simply a case of offering contracts to the riders I want to keep and the riders I want to sign and then keep my fingers crossed that they accept the offer?

Is there anything within the team budget I need to consider? Is there anything I can do to make it more likely my offers will be accepted? Do the riders tell me want they want and I can then offer what I think they will accept?

I assume with riders I don't want to keep I simply don't offer a contract and they will either sign a contract with someone else and leave at the end of the season, or sign with no one else and leave as a free agent at the end of the season.

Cheers

You offer contracts to the riders on your team that you want to keep as well as your targets from other teams. Do look at the rider wage and duration demands (at the top of the offer popup) as it gives an indication of what offer is likely to be accepted.

There are two budgets, one which is the indicative sponsor budget and another which is the max budget you are allowed to spend on wages. This is given at the bottom of the contract offer popup. They should be self-explanatory once you read them. For, second and third question, refer to previous answer.

After you offer them contracts, riders often come back to you saying that they want an improved/changed contract. Keep an eye out for those as well.

That's it basically. They too sometimes request extensions, but you can obviously ignore it.

Hope this helps Smile

Cheers. I thought it was fairly straight forward. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything I had overlooked Smile

Does the wage budget allowed take into account riders who you are getting rid of? For example I'm planning to offload Wiggins. He's currently on 120,000 a month which is a large salary on the game. Will that 120,000 be included in the salary budget?

I missed something here...
There are three things mentioned at the bottom of the offer contract popup:
1)The current wages of riders who are confirmed for next year. This keeps increasing as you sign new riders.
2)The indicative budget allocated by sponsors. This can change next season depending on the objectives mutually agreed upon.
3)The max budget you can spend. A constant figure for that year. Does not change.

In your example, the Wiggins salary will not be counted in any of these. If you re-sign him, only then will 120,000 be added to point one's total.

Thanks again. Hopefully that is everything I need to know.

Last couple of questions Smile Hopefully

In your experience, would it be worth offering Wiggins a reduced salary? I assume he would simply sign for someone else.

His stats simply don't justify 120,000 a month however he is still a useful rider. I was thinking of offering him 60,000 a month but I'm assuming he'll simply sign for someone else who will offer more.

Also, once you have made an offer, if the rider accepts is that it? Or do you have the option to cancel the offer or delay it. For example say you need to sign a sprinter and you only want one. Their are 2 similar riders available so you offer them both contracts to see who you can get the best deal with. If both riders accept do you have the option to cancel one of the offers or even to delay the decision until you get a response from both riders.

Sorry if the above doesn't make any sense Smile

Keep'em coming Pfft

Well, in my PCM 14 career, Wiggins eventually ends up riding for Lotto Soudal for a couple of seasons for a reduced salary. This after he spends a year as a free agent. So, yes I can see your dilemma. Now whether you want him or not depends on what you want your team balance to be. Just see what his demands are before making up your mind, considering other targets...

Perfectly sensible, faced the same situation myself Grin

You do get one final chance to accept or reject a rider after he has agreed.

He's a good domestique who will win a few TT's. Not worth 120,000 a month though. I'll see what he wants and try to offer him lower. I don't mind if he doesn't sign as I'm hoping to sign decent replacements in Roache, Pinot and Betancur Smile
