The cycling-related side of the internet is crawling with GPX editors lately, if you hadn't noticed already. Some of the more popular ones have been widely used on Twitter and such, as well as being utilized to improve the meagre looks of some of the profiles made by the race organizations.
A few of them have reached popularity quickly thanks to the publicity they have rightfully gained. Many others, however, struggle to be noticed even after years they have established, and remain a niche product in their very own field. That’s the case for La Flamme Rouge’s editor, formerly located on Eseifrancesi’s site, has now moved on, looking for some more well-deserved recognition.
The editor, active ever since early 2014, has been successfully built by the award-winning PCM stagemaker emmea90, and since then, it has steadily seen its features grow and generally improve. Thanks to the new domain, its traffic should hopefully be sparking as well. In fact, not many are aware of the opportunities the site offers, compared to others: which is why I’ll quickly guide you through the main features.
Multiple Styles for High Quality Profiles
The editor counts a whopping amount of HQ styles you can choose from, to present your stage profiles. You can choose whether to use 3D or 2D profiles for all of them.
The Cobbles Map
The feature that most makes the editor stand out from the others is probably “the cobbles map”. Having integrated a vast amount of cobbled sectors, La Flamme Rouge’s GPX Editor improves your tracking experience majorly, especially considering the time you’ll save when tracking Spring Classics and not only, thanks to the classification of hundreds of cobbled sectors all around the world, as well as the classification of their difficulty.
Here’s a quick look on it:
Ease of use
Tracking on La Flamme Rouge is as easy as it gets. By clicking on “new track” you can already start tracking all around the world, without requiring an account like in other sites – although creating one is strongly recommended given all the data you can explore with one! You can choose among 3 tracking modes, Free, Drive and Walking, based off Google Maps’.
You can then add checkpoints just as easily by selecting “edit intermediates”, and they can vary from sprints, KoM points, feeding zones, cobbled sectors and time trial checkpoints.
Automatic Maps for Stages and Tours
The editor automatically generates maps for each stage or even for the entire Tour like ASO and such do, you don’t have to do anything else, and well, they look great.
That’s not all
This, of course, is just a small part of what you can find on La Flamme Rouge. For instance, you can still explore the ASO-like last kilometers overviews, or see the gradients of each climb on your profile by color.
But besides all these little things that make the editor great, the site is proposing lots of initiatives you can take part to throughout the year. Currently, the site is organizing a World Tour stagemaking contest, split in 5 rounds of which the opening one, dedicated to the Spring Classics, is underway!
You can compete against other track makers and improve your tracking skills, all while having fun and getting the chance to illustrate your fantasy races in the showrooms forum!
Thanks for reading, help La Flamme Rouge grow and gain the visibility it well deserves!
