Welcome,
Today I begin a new historical serie with two of the most professional cyclists on the international scene, I'm talking about Tony Rominger and Abraham Olano.
Of Abraham Olano the journalist always said that he could have won more big tours, but we do not forget that all his power was in the flat and TTT stages. When he has a good day (Pordoi ´96 season and Angliru ´99 for example) he could climb pretty well, but he always has a bad day. We could saw the best version of Olano was in 96. What many remember of Abraham Olano is his comparison with Indurain and the press worldwide as compared with Indurain, which for him was a burden. Even that he won The Tour of spain and 2 World worldchampionships, and many other kind of races. I will compete with hin in which I think was one of his best years as a proffesional, his 1996 season in Mapei.
Tony Rominger was much more complete than Olano. He was a rider that climbs very well and have a very nice races in TTT speciality. We can not forget that Rominger won 3 tours of Spain and a giro of Italy and was at Tour podium with Indurain in his best way.
He will be remembered as the great rival of Miguel Indurain in 1993, being one of the toughest rival fot the spanish .Other very important riders we have in Mapei are the great Johan Museeuw, Frank Vandenbroucke, Gianluca Bortolami and Andrea Tafi. As you can imagine we have an autentic crack Team.
