Womens Cycling 2016
TheManxMissile
My second home is back Pfft

Big year for Womens Cycling with the debut of the Womens WorldTour and the Olympics. Plenty of adaptations and changes to take in and look forwards to.

January has a selection of good races. Aussie and New Zealand Nationals, Feminino San Luis, Santos Womens Tour and Cadel Evans Great Ocean Classic.

I can't wait to get going!

Well the season is very much going now. Firstly the Australasian NC's:

No WC Villumsen but damn that was a close race!

Pretty straight forwards again for Garfoot

Double for Buchanan!

Great close and agressive race this one

Now onto some real racing in Argentina!

Jasinska with a clear win, good race for Rivera and Trevisi as well. You can tell the "locals" are in better shape.

Today is the beginning of the Tour Femenino de San Luis, the womens version of the mens race. Should be a good race

Tour Femenino de San Luis, the first real stage race of the season. Decent startlist with most of the good South Americans attending with a smattering of other names throughout the peloton. Not a top level event certainly, but a good one none the less.

Rivera continues her good early year form and wins the opening sprint (continuing UHC's hold on the event without Barnes).

Tagliafero was superior this time, moving up a step to win. A much more open sprint really shuffled the order around.

The first hilly stage brought the locals to the fore. Garcia staying just clear for a good victory.

Stephens capitalised on a good Stage 3, to win the ITT and move into a strong race lead.

Hall capitalised on a godd ITT, winning a tough summit finish stage and taking the race lead.

One stage to go but it should be all sealed up for Katie hall and UHC at this point.

Final stage of San Luis was controled by the 'locals'. But no issues for race leader Katie Hall.

Thus the American claims the GC ahead of Jasinska. Sierras stage win moved her to 3rd. Pretty good race for Cuba!

We've also had the two-stage Tour of Udon. Maneephan won both stages to claim the race.

Then of course there is the Santos Womens Tour! The womens version of the mens race brought a good startlist and the first stages have been great.
Garfoot somehow outsprinted Olds to win Stage 1 from a break, King a strong 3rd. Kitchen and Cromwell also made the split to take god GC advantages. Wiles was 28th.

Edmondson headed a Wiggle 1-2 with Hosking with Williams (Orica) third in a straight mass sprint for Stage 2. Wiles was 48th an lost no time.

Tomorrows race around Lyndoch is a hilly affair and crucial for the GC hopefulls. It'll round off after than with a nice crit style final stage sprint.

Williams attacked late and solo'd away, but Garfoot in second defended her race lead. Wiles was 37th.

Wells took the final stage sprint ahead of Edmondson, with Garfoot third to cap a great race for her and Orica.

Garfoot claimed the GC ahead of Olds and Kitchen, Wiles was 25th. A great first race!

The Asian Championships are next up, and the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race is at the end of the month.

Last years winner came close, but Spratt was away and untouchable. King continues to show some impressive form early on, will be interesting to see if this holds up. Tayler Wiles very impressive for 7th!
This is a race that could do with a more international field, only 6 "rest of the world" riders (of which one rides for Orica) is really poor for most races. Especially when compared to the Mens event (granted it's HC compared to .2). Hopefully this will change because it's a great race.

Qatar up next, sounds like a great startlist is in the works.

The Ladies Tour of Qatar just started today. And it`s one of the women races that are broadcasted with nice quality as well online on beINsports USA with Arabic commentators though.

First stage is finishing in couple of minutes.

Stage 2 saw things rip wide open! Huge gaps appeared under high pace and wind. Garfoot had the strength to solo herself to victory, and quite possibly the GC win. Worrack and Pieters rounded out the podium. Anyone not in that front group is pretty much out of contention but for stage glories.

Further winds continued on Stage 3 and the race tears further open. We should pray for wind come the Worlds, it could make for a very interesting race. Ellen Van Dijk showed off her impressive power to win solo ahead of Wild and neo-pro Hanson who is making a real statement in these early races.
Worrack moves into the GC lead but if the winds persist it's far from settled.

i.imgur.com/UmX5YX1.jpgi.imgur.com/iRneKpI.jpgi.imgur.com/fljmGSP.jpgi.imgur.com/qV5ItIc.jpgimgur.com/dr2BAI6.jpgimgur.com/KlJUqDx.jpg[/img[img]]https://imgur.com/yUygrQ.jpgi.imgur.com/C1rG9BW.jpgi.imgur.com/sEDS7gr.jpg

TheManxMissile
The winds didn't persist. Hosking won the sprint ahead of Wild and Van de Ree in a bunch sprint. This meant no major changes to the GC.
Worrack holds her GC for Canyon with the Boels double of Kasper and Van Djik also on the podium. Wild easily held her Points lead and must rue Stage 2 otherwise she would have dominated this race. Koster just nicks the Youth, but Hanson really announcing her strength and she could be an interesting ride to follow. Canyon took the team, new name but same old business of winning.

Quite a wait again until the next big races which is the Belgian Opening weekend at the end of the month.

A very assured and confident debut for the WC Jersey and Lizzie Armitstead. Went clear and looked super strong. Blaak with a strong sprint for a Boels 1-2 with Cromwell showing good form for 3rd.

A sign of good form ahead of Strade Bianche?

Great start to the season for Lizzie Smile

TheManxMissile
Bastianelli had a great sprint finish to win. Kirchman showed a turn of speed not many knew she had for 2nd. Lepisto will probably be dissapointed with only 3rd.

Le Samyn in a couple of days continues the cobbles spree and the build up to the WWT opener.
i.imgur.com/UmX5YX1.jpgi.imgur.com/iRneKpI.jpgi.imgur.com/fljmGSP.jpgi.imgur.com/qV5ItIc.jpgimgur.com/dr2BAI6.jpgimgur.com/KlJUqDx.jpg[/img[img]]https://imgur.com/yUygrQ.jpgi.imgur.com/C1rG9BW.jpgi.imgur.com/sEDS7gr.jpg

TheManxMissile
Chantal Blaak out manouvered Johansson to win Samyn. Pieters lead the chase group behind the lead duo. The tough course really split things up!

With Johansson confirmed for Boels she looks in fine form to offer an alternative option to Longo Borghini at the weekend.
i.imgur.com/UmX5YX1.jpgi.imgur.com/iRneKpI.jpgi.imgur.com/fljmGSP.jpgi.imgur.com/qV5ItIc.jpgimgur.com/dr2BAI6.jpgimgur.com/KlJUqDx.jpg[/img[img]]https://imgur.com/yUygrQ.jpgi.imgur.com/C1rG9BW.jpgi.imgur.com/sEDS7gr.jpg

TheManxMissile
Pretty great introduction for the WWT, with the race being dueled right to the last moments. Armitstead reinforces both her status and her form as she powered away to claim victory! Niewiadoma really impressive for 2nd, she is a big talent. Johannson showing her good form for the final podium place.
Those behind like Longo Borghini, Van Vleuten etc. will be somewhat dissapointed to have missed the key moments. Though i imagine Kitchen and Kirchman are very happy their top-10's.

Lizzie doing the World Champio jersey proud yet again Grin

Ian Butler
Vos is making her comeback after 10 months being out.
Now I got a reason to start watching again Grin

Wish her all the best, hope she can achieve her former level. With some new, strong ladies in the peloton it could turn into nice racing Wink

sutty68
Vos is obviously missing the bike Wink
