Costa Rican National Championships

Costa Rican NC on a hilly route. 6 riders of which ONCE has 3 in two squads (Guillen/Rojas Villegas and Villalobos).
Mudarra (RedBull), Brenes (Quickstep) and biggest name Amador (Swisscom) are the other 3.

And it couldn`t have started much better for ONCE. Both their squads send a rider into the early break. Guillen and Villalobos. First a well known sprinter but mainly on pan flat stages. Second more a climber without the best strength on any other terrain including shorter climbs.

We can already jump to the 3km mark as the others never decided to chase. 25min gap.
Normally team mates, today they will fight against each other. Who is stronger on the last uphill?

They were riding next to each other until 1,3km to go. Then we see the first acceleration and it`s the stronger sprinter Guillen!

And it was an impressive acceleration as his team mate can`t follow at all. So it`s a win for Guillen on hilly terrain. You won`t see this very often and possibly never again actually.

Let`s make it very short. No rider was able to challenge Andrei Amador today. They all suck in time trials and the Swisscom rider wins with more than 3 minutes ahead of Brenes and Rojas Villegas to defend his jersey.
