Welcome to coverage of the first stage in the Tour do Faso, which could already be the most decisive of the race. The favourites have to be the cobblers with a long cobble section just before the finish. Therefore the likes of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gen.png Taillefour, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Langeveld and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/lpu.png Joseph will be the most fancied.

As the stage begins the first break of the race is swiftly formed. It contains 14 riders, with the strongest on the cobbles being pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png Lilholt and the fastest sprinter pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/lpu.png Cerny.

There are two winners of the day's two intermediate sprints, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/npn.png Barta winning the first and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/lpu.png Cerny the second. This means both gain the joint most bonus seconds from the group at three seconds each.

As we approach the cobbled section though the break has been reeled in by Generali and the whole peloton is together.

That remains the case as the peloton hit the cobbles with 20 kilometres left. Lierse and Evonik share the pacemaking duties, although the pace they are setting isn't too high which will suit the sprinters.

With 12 kilometres left we see the first attack from a favourite, as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/evo.png Flaksis seizes the initiative and jumps out of the pack, opening up a sizeable gap!

The Latvian looks in impressive form as he pulls out a 40 second gap with just 5 kilometres remaining! Seeing an opportunity to join him, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Polanc is the next favourite to attack just before the 5km mark.

Lierse have increased the pace behind, perhaps for their sprinter Peeters but they have a real task on their hands to catch the Evonik man.

2500m left for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/evo.png Flaksis and the gap is holding at around the 45 second mark. It's certainly starting to look like he can't be caught!

Back in the peloton the sprint has begun, with Lierse dominating the front of the field along with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Corioni who's coming fast on the right of the road.

Although the win looks gone pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Polanc is within striking distance for the sprinters, just 15 seconds up the road.

It's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/evo.png Flaksis who takes a fantastic win today though, which certainly puts him in the driving seat for the GC now! A great ride from him who's performance here could be helping his team confirm their status in promised land of the PT.

In the sprint behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Corioni has blasted away from his rivals and with 500m to go catches pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Polanc.

It's not over for the Slovenian though and with bonus seconds available down to 10th place here it's still possible he will get a boost in the overall standings.

Behind in the fight for the minor bonus seconds pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png Østergaard is leading the way in 4th with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Dupont, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/lpu.png Peeters and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/lpu.png Joseph all looking for crucial positions.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Corioni is indeed 2nd for Strava, leading the peloton home 39 seconds behind the winner. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Polanc does incredibly well to hold onto the final podium place and bag some crucial seconds.
