Tour of Britain - Stage 7
roturn
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Britain/mg2015_brit_07_PCM0064.jpg

Last hill stage this race and while Ben Nasser has a comfortable lead it`s mainly McCarthy and Kelderman looking the strongest here so far and sit just next in the rankings. But also others like Hugenhaben, Kangert, LLS, Costa might want to show something.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Britain/mg2015_brit_07_PCM0065.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/afr.png Rabie
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bpo.png Cornu
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gzl.png Hofland
is the break of the day. No GC or KoM threats today but Cornu already knows how to win a stage here even though it was a time trial.
Evonik and Eritel doing the early work. So those two teams might plan something here.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Britain/mg2015_brit_07_PCM0077.jpg

Lane and Egidio once again attack at the first KoM as also Bernas. Possibly those should be going earlier in future races.
But the bigger move comes from Eritel as their best puncheur but GC disappointment pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ers.png Dowsett also is attacking.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Britain/mg2015_brit_07_PCM0085.jpg

Though it was an unlucky attempt by Dowsett today. Kenya Airways did not plan to allowe big gaps in the second half and with 60km to go they had the break at under 2min, when Dowsett was just about to join them.
And just moments later the newest attackers got all caught by the Kenya train and we have two new attackers 1min behind the break:
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/spr.png Krizek
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rge.png Meyer
First surely want to continue the Sauber success recently while Meyer has lost his own GC chances when waiting for Olsson on stage 5.
Surprisingly with 40km to go the gap is allowed bigger again as it hits the 3min mark again but going down to 2min just 5km later as Eritel once again working there.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Britain/mg2015_brit_07_PCM0097.jpg

On the penultimate climb and as the gap is down to 1'30 it`s a good opportunity for the GC guys to attack when they also want the stage win.
First to go are Mehr-Wenige, Wyss and Chaves. So 2nd tier riders with first being the best placed at 22nd and about 8min off.
Hatanaka and Thurau follow but all of them are caught instantly.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Britain/mg2015_brit_07_PCM0104.jpg

A more dangerous attack just afterwards when pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/evo.png Sanchez Gil attacks the top5 in the GC. Only 30s to the break ahead of him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Britain/mg2015_brit_07_PCM0108.jpg

Or not? Apparently Rabie did gap the others on that climb and goes onto the final lap with a 1min gap!
Also in the peloton a couple of splits and some riders are dropped. Best placed are Minnard (12.), Olsson (15.). This time no Risa wait train.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Britain/mg2015_brit_07_PCM0112.jpg

A group of four is following the LLS move.
Kelderman, Boom, McCarthy, Ben Nasser.
Westra, Konrad immediately at the front to work for Kangert while Ben Nasser is caught by them! Could the others attack the GC still?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Britain/mg2015_brit_07_PCM0118.jpg

Moments later another duo attacked in Bazzana and Boswell. Only first though was able to join the group of Kelderman, McCarthy, Boom and also LLS, who are 45s behind Rabie with 5km to go. Boom obviously with another power pull at the front now working for Bazzana.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Britain/mg2015_brit_07_PCM0125.jpg

Final 4 kilometers and Rabie is just in front of them. But also the peloton is not far behind with Nutresa and for some reason Lampier (YAS) working.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Britain/mg2015_brit_07_PCM0127.jpg

When McCarthy accelerated, Rabie was quickly caught and left behind. Also Boom and LLS were dropped. Both have spent too much energy it seems.
Kelderman wants to defend the 2nd and has to follow but look at the 3rd rider in this row: Bazzana also follows.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Britain/mg2015_brit_07_PCM0132.jpg

LLS, Ben Nasser, Kangert, Hugenhaben, Costa, Klemme are all in the first rows of the peloton but see the gap becoming bigger. GC positions 2-4 are in the leading group and Ben Nasser`s advantage should be big enough. So at least no big changes, while Rabie in between is no danger therefore.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Britain/mg2015_brit_07_PCM0137.jpg

Bazzana starts the sprint with 1km to go. On top of the hill it`s almost flat, which surely helps him as the others should be far better puncheurs.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Britain/mg2015_brit_07_PCM0139.jpg

400m and McCarthy is right next to him with Kelderman still having a bit.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Britain/mg2015_brit_07_PCM0141.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Britain/mg2015_brit_07_PCM0143.jpg

But Kelderman made a late acceleration going past a struggling McCarthy. But it`s not enough! Bazzana has it in a photo finish and is taking his 2nd stage win. This time very surprisingly not from a break but in a pure GC rider fight. Mr. Overperformance today for sure but then again he only made the one deciding move while the others attacked twice. Plus Lars Boom working for his team mate instead of going for himself.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Britain/mg2015_brit_07_PCM0144.jpg

Once again Kangert seems to be the best of the rest by sprinting to 4th and once again getting a small gap. +22s for him, while Demare leads the peloton at +30s.

Some gaps appeared at the end and biggest victim of the uphill finish seems to be Kolobnev, who was gapped losing more than 1min to drop out of the top10.

Olsson and Minnard were the others, who never made it back and are going to lose some GC positions to ~30th.

And last but not least the first abandon as Thomas Murray won`t start tomorrow.
