Today's stage is one of the shortest road races in the tour, but maybe the most challenging flat stage. The Bear Creek Hill may well split the bunch into pieces and pure sprinters will have to fight there.

Someone like Kreder or Van der Sande may be the better bets for a bunch sprint decision, even though we can't look past Granjel Cabrera, who also knows how to survive hillclimbs!

It took a while for a group of 5 riders to finally go clear and so the sprinters fought for the first intermediate: Castaneda took minor points with two escapees a few metres ahead..

would then build the break and they hold on to a 1'40" gap with today's only climb done.. will they also hold on for the first breakaway victory here?

Well, it looked promising with the peloton slightly struggling to close the gap on the final two laps around Red Lodge. The group is still ahead by a few seconds with only Mobil setting a train for the bunch sprint:

Still more than a kilometre to go and Reijnen, Hollenstein and Duggan go clear from Robov/Nascimento!

It's getting closer though with Dall'Antonio pulling Cabrera towards this front group..

The "Mobil epxress" is opening up a notable gap on the other sprinters, where Soupe and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sbp.png Kreder lead the thing now..

Cabrera though is delivered a great leadout (again) and storms to the very front! Also Soupe comes with a huge kick to go past Reijnen as the last escapee standing tall!

Kreder the strongest of the rest, closing up to Duggan/Hollenstein and Dall'Antonio..
