Strasbourg marks the beginning of the Tour de l'Avenir, with a prologue to kick things off.

And the first strong looking time comes from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mus.png Verona.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Zmorka is an early starter though, and he moves into the lead, 18 seconds clear.

There's not long to wait for one of his closest challengers ride, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Sütterlin looking for a strong result on a course that is close to the German border. He can't get close to Zmorka though, and is 9 seconds down.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png Mullen and prologue specialist pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ers.png Hamza both went through the check point 12 seconds down, aiming at the time of Verona. Well, they managed the same time - but rank below him, with Hamza just faster than Mullen.

Three more level with them at the split were pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fxg.png Frame, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/dek.png Korsaeth and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Haig. However they did not finish quite as fast, with Korsaeth the best of them at 19 seconds to Zmorka.

Two more in that same ball park: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/aeg.png Cataford and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/akm.png Enger. The Norwegian joins Verona, Hamza and Mullen at the 18 second deficit, but is ranked lowest of them, while Cataford is a second further back.

Now for the rider Zmorka has been waiting for, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vsa.png Jungels. The winner of last year's prologue, looking for the double.

But Zmorka was in another league today, and the Luxembourg rider settles for 2nd, 8 seconds behind.

It gives the Chinese rider a gain of 14 seconds on pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Morton today, the Aussie finishing at 28 seconds to Zmorka. Then finally the last noteworthy rider of the day, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Lecuisinier, who rides in for 5th place - 3 seconds behind Shikai.

Sprinters Zabel and Groenewegen complete the racing for today, their eyes set on tomorrow's first road stage.

And so a Metinvest rider takes the Yellow jersey in France - a familiar tale!
