Who will come out on top stateside?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Cigar City/cc1.jpg

The break today: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fxg.png Losch, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/elt.png Simantirakis & pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/chi.png Tolleson. Nice to see the former USA champ soaking up the atmosphere, even if the terrain weren't his cup of tea!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Cigar City/cc2.jpg
120 KM to go : 7'50 the gap.

Some other teams have appeared at the front but mainly pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Strava, mostly, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gen.png Generali - Kronenbourg 1664 have been doing the chasing.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Cigar City/cc3.jpg
A good move!

With 53 KM to go the peloton is just 1'00 behind the trio, and down to 82 riders, when we see the first potentially stage-winning attack. It is by, no less than one of the CT stars, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png De Maar.

He wastes little time in attacking across to the trio, when....

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Cigar City/cc4.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/chi.png Tolleson hits the deck. That is what happens when you try to follow the Curacao champ! The Chiquita - Universal p/b Minions rider had been following for all of about 30 meters when he hit the deck!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Cigar City/cc5.jpg

After a brief spell of pace setting by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/lpu.png Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo Cycling Team we have a shock with 42 KM to go. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Langeveld is seen setting the pace at the front of the, now, 62 strong peloton. Is he leading his team today?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Cigar City/cc6.jpg

After a good show from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png De Maar, he ultimately could not resist the bunch and is caught with some 28 KM to go. All favourites together.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Cigar City/cc7.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Van Wyk on the attack! The Namibian wastes little time in putting in a strong counterattack. Was that why pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Langeveld was setting the pace?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Cigar City/cc8.jpg

Four riders try to counter: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fxg.png De Vocht, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sod.png Turgot, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png De Maar & pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Langeveld.

Only pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fxg.png De Vocht, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sod.png Turgot, of the four, manage to get clear of the rest of the favourites. The latter soon to distance the former.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Cigar City/cc9.jpg
20 KM to go.

With no-one out front pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png Carlsberg - Danske Bank are now the team taking up the chase, but aren't making good inroads to those up ahead. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ice.png Bakari towards the head of the race.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Cigar City/cc10.jpg
Looking good for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Van Wyk.

With 19 KM to go:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Van Wyk
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sod.png Turgot@ '20
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fxg.png De Vocht@ '36
26 man peloton@ '56

Take the images, from now on, with a pinch of salt. Due to the shortness of the course, many riders, long dropped, will appear in the screens being lapped.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Cigar City/cc11.jpg

A Namibian win looks on the cards with 8 KM to go, which is the time when we see the next attack out of the favourites group. The time to the sole leader has increased to well over 1'00.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/evo.png Ingels is the rider to attack, he would be countered by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Langeveld, before the likes of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gen.png Taillefour nullify this move.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Cigar City/cc12.jpg
Victory for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Strava!

For a long time there was no doubt that pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Van Wyk was going to take the win, a well timed attack backed up with some strong legs was the story of this one. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Strava can sure win these types of races in many ways!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Cigar City/cc13.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sod.png Turgot would soldier onwards and finish, very well, in second place on the day. 1'15 down on the race winner.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fxg.png De Vocht, on the other hand, would be caught in the dying meters as a 26 strong group of favourites would sprint out the final podium spot.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Cigar City/cc14.jpg

And it is the previous attacker, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/evo.png Ingels, who rounds out the podium today. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fxg.png Steegmans, perhaps the wiser choice for 3rd, would come home in fourth with his aggressive teammate, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fxg.png De Vocht, holding on for 6th.

Nowhere to be seen all day pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ioc.png Aulas pops up for 5th. Another supreme show for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Strava, with four in the top 16.

Hard day for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gen.png Generali - Kronenbourg 1664 though, their best coming home 20th.
