The halfway stage of the race is reached, with a 2nd consecutive summit finish.

The race doesnt seem to be improving much for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vwa.png Monsalve as he crashes on the descent of the first Cat 2 climb with 53km to go. The peloton is stretched, so he isn't dropped, but it is not an ideal situation to be in.

Zakarin and Blikra each won one of the Cat 2 climbs, and came 2nd in the other - although there was no fight at either. Zakarin had earlier won the Cat 4, and already had 10 points - so now moves to 2nd in the competition on 33.

Approaching the final climb, the break has a 2 minute lead on a chasing group of 4:

There's a gap before anyone can respond, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/btc.png Taaramäe wasn't long in spotting the danger. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bac.png Úran, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pnd.png Dombrowski and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Lecuisinier will join him, 40 seconds off the first 3.

The groups remain at a status quo situation for a few kilometres, while the break of the day still hope to win the stage. Iino and Le Bon are working a little gap out on the rest of the group with 6km to go.

1'15 behind them now are Sicard, Pluchkin and Amador, swiftly riding past the 4 later attackers - although pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Vysna does his best to keep up for a while.

Taaramae and Uran are working particularly well in their group with Dombrowski and Lecuisinier to hold the gap at 40 seconds, but Alarcon and Martin have slipped back to a further 50 seconds down in a group with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Velits, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mei.png Ji and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pro.png Henao Montoya. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Morton, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vwa.png Monsalve and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mus.png Fothen are slightly further back, and later than them are Valls and Faiers.

Uran and Taaramae remain in middle ground, with the U25 battlers with them. Their deficit is starting to slip out to 50 second though.

At 3km to go the leading trio catch the breakaway. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sui.png Amador is eyeing up a climb into 2nd overall and immediately attacks.

They can't even keep up with him. Stage win number 2, he is really starting to boss this race.

Amador beats Sicard to 2nd, 11 seconds later, with De la Cruz a fine 4th.

Uran comes in at 1'01 while 2nd overall Taaramae is there at 1'23. He is not 2nd overall anymore, falling behind Amador - but just ahead of Sicard.

Dombrowski is at 1'32 before Klemme leading the rest of the breakaway at 1'45. Lecuisinier is in there, and so too are Martin, Alarcon and Henao. Alarcon holds onto a place in the Top 5 meaning that Uran slips to 6th despite riding fairly well.

Velits at 2'21 is one of the worst of yesterday's 11 to recover, while Fothen had a somewhat better ride today at 2'43. 3'12 for Mortin and Ji, Monsalve not great at 3'43, with Valls in at 4'08 with Faiers.

It's a 2'24 GC lead for Pluchkin now, he is into 2nd in the Points competition 27 behind Bewley, and leads the KoM by 15. He won two jerseys in the Vuelta, could he make it 3 here?
