La Tropicale Amissa Bongo - Stage 5
The Rider
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/La Bongo/Stage 5.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/La Bongo/F1.jpg

With pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/san.png Andriato winning on stage 4, what can we expect today?

Of course, a break would make it clear:
- pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Bazhkou
- pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/elt.png Bouglas
- pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/san.png Dotti
- pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/tt1.png Eldridge
- pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sod.png Homrani (KOM leader)
- pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ino.png Lee

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sod.png Homrani would reinforce his lead in the KOM comp, not that he needed to. He would also take some more bonus seconds to provisionally boost him up to the top 15 in GC.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/La Bongo/F2.jpg

Though the break would be caught again here, which shouldn't surprise anyone by now. With 10 KM to go a speculative attack by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Van Hummel and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sev.png Golas gets nowhere, so the sprint is on cards.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/La Bongo/F3.jpg

For the first time in the race pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/otp.png Mezgec looks interested in the finish, his team come up in numbers deep into the last 5 KM.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/La Bongo/F4.jpg
3 KM to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/otp.png Mezgec
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cpl.png Matthews
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Kankovský
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/tt1.png Verschoor
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/npn.png Serebriakov
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/san.png Andriato
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png Rasmussen
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ino.png Nateghi
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/alp.png Forero

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/otp.png Mezgec must have been a bit too eager to impress today though, he launches his final effort with still 2.6 KM to go. A long ways out for his final sprint!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/La Bongo/F5.jpg

Left of the screen: just look how far back pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Lavoine, again, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/act.png Kuboki start their sprints. Can they finish well from so far back?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/La Bongo/F6.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/otp.png Mezgec leads going under the 1 KM to go banner, a great show for him but now pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cpl.png Matthews and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/npn.png Serebriakov are starting to go through the gears.

Far right: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Lavoine and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/act.png Kuboki have made up serious ground.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/La Bongo/F7.jpg

And as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/otp.png Mezgec, not surprisingly, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/npn.png Serebriakov, surprisingly, go backwards we see those who started well behind come to the fore with 500 meters to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/act.png Kuboki leads the race from the white jersey, what a turnaround! A win for him could see a change in the race lead. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Lavoine is now in contention though as is, the most consistent here, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/alp.png Forero.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/La Bongo/F8.jpg

In the dying meters, though, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cpl.png Matthews comes level with the Japanese. Another close finish incoming.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/La Bongo/F9.jpg

And it is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cpl.png Matthews who takes it, another stage winner and another different podium: this time completed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/act.png Kuboki and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Kankovský respectively.

After five stages we now see a GC change, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/act.png Kuboki will start the final stage in yellow, though he is level on time with the deposed pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Lavoine, who finished in a resurgent 5th place today. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/alp.png Forero, thanks to 2 third places and 2 fourth places, is up to 3rd in the GC just '2 off the race lead, what a marvel!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/npn.png Serebriakov @ '8 and today's stage winner pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cpl.png Matthews @ '11 can't be counted out. Not to forget the top 5 in the points competition are separated by only 10 points.

I hope you will agree: What a final stage to come!
