Hanko Classic

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/profiles/c2/hc_mg.png

Perfect conditions with almost no wind. The top-sprinters aiming high today, so Thorsen/Belarusbank, Richeze or Lavoine as maybe the most promising riders here.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Hanko/MG15_Hanko_001.jpg

A break of two (Ibanez, Duran) went clear early and is joined by three more riders, as this group then establishes a bigger gap about 40km into the race:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/san.png Duran
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ino.png Parno
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/dek.png Aaltio
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/esc.png Partridge

The few spectators definitely will like to see a local hero/team in the break of the day, which builds a gap up to 4 minutes then..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Hanko/MG15_Hanko_002.jpg

Teams like Alpina and Fablok would lead the chasing pack, that narrows the gap inside the second half of the race. They always looked in control, but with now 16km left - the early break leading by 40 seconds - we see an ever dangerous attack from a strong man:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/npn.png Kuznetsov attacks the pack!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Hanko/MG15_Hanko_003.jpg

He's bridging across the breakaway quickly, but the gap is getting smaller with teams like Carlsberg, SanCor and Belarusbank now pulling the strings hard at the front of the peloton.

The leading group looks done with 5km to go..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Hanko/MG15_Hanko_004.jpg

..and yes, they were chanceless eventually. Ibanez and Kuznetsov as the last men standing, but they are swallowed by the sprint train(s) about 3km before finish!

Carlsberg struggling once Alpina moved forward with their train - which is actually the only one so far:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/alp.png Rodríguez Parra - Arango - Forero
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Hutarovich
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Lavoine
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/san.png Richeze
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/nns.png Sobota
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/otp.png Mezgec
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ice.png Vanderaerden
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/lpu.png Pelucchi
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ino.png Kruopis

So Hutarovich as Belarusbank's go-to-guy, while Lierse goes for Pelucchi instead of Peeters! Most notable names struggling are Hochmann and Rasmussen/Westling!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Hanko/MG15_Hanko_005.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png Rasmussen and his train now catching up to Kruopis, but that's still a way to go with the kite already in the background!

Alpina's Arango now taking over the leadout duties..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Hanko/MG15_Hanko_006.jpg

..and he's still leading the whole train into the finishing stretch! Almost nothing's changed in the meantime, but Rasmussen is still struggling to move forward..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Hanko/MG15_Hanko_007.jpg

Forero now launching his sprint inside the final 700m! Hutarovich, Lavoine, Richeze and Sobota in the most promising positions.

Mezgec, Vanderaerden, Pelucchi and a struggling Kruopis battling for the Top-10 positions here. Rasmussen is too far behind at this point..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Hanko/MG15_Hanko_008.jpg

Forero couldn't yet go past his own leadout, while it's Hutarovich, Lavoine and also Richeze with the better speed now! Sobota still ahead of Mezgec/Vanderaerden..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Hanko/MG15_Hanko_009.jpg

..and yes, Forero won't fight for the podium, as Hutarovich - Lavoine - Richeze will go for a thrilling finish here!

They are almost shoulder-to-shoulder with the line approaching..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Hanko/MG15_Hanko_010.jpg

..it's indeed a tight decision, but it looks like Hutarovich held off Lavoine and Richeze til the end..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Hanko/MG15_Hanko_011.jpg

He did: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Hutarovich takes this classic ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Lavoine and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/san.png Richeze! A super-thrilling decision and therefore an entertaining sprinters' classic. Today's winner had a nice position and delivered then.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/nns.png Sobota with a strong 4th ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/alp.png Forero, who couldn't benefit from a strong leadout by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/alp.png Arango (8th). Still a decent result for Alpina though.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/otp.png Mezgec, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/lpu.png Pelucchi, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ice.png Vanderaerden and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ino.png Kruopis then completing the Top-10, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png Rasmussen has to settle for 12th (even behind teammate pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png Lilholt). Carlsberg with 6 riders inside the Top-20 though!

Disappointing results for Generali (Ratto/28th), Novatek (Kuznetsov/19th) and particularly De Laval (Aaltio/62nd)! Westling apparently amongst the worst today, finishing 123rd eventually.
