Giro del Capo - Stage 4
tsmoha
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Capo/MG15_Capo_4_000.png

This must be the key stage here: a challenging loop in the near of Stellenbosch offers opportunities to go for a more selective race than yesterday.

Samoilev and Der did deliver 24hours ago. Pozdnyakov/Rabon were strong as well, while Mendes or Zeits have yet to answer.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Capo/MG15_Capo_4_001.jpg

A first group of ten riders ain't allowed to stay clear, but four of those then go for the break of the day:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sev.png Kiserlovski
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Owsian
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/elt.png Simantirakis
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gen.png Passalacqua

All of them are + 3'39" in the GC. Passalacqua with quite an interesting early move. He's not the first GC-option for Generali, it seems.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Capo/MG15_Capo_4_002.jpg

No more action until the final 21km of the stage: Kiserlovski took the first mountain sprint, Owsian the second.

Now it's Kiserlovski taking the third and final sprint, as him and Passalacqua open up a gap on Osian and an early dropped Simantirakis!

The peloton is struggles so far, yet trailing by 2'50" on the leaders!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Capo/MG15_Capo_4_003.jpg

Given this latest gap and the GC-situation prior to the stage, all of those four escapees become pretty dangerous for at least the Top-10 now.

Netia, DeLaval and Severstal as those teams showing their colors at the front of the bunch, which is reduced to 60 riders in the meantime..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Capo/MG15_Capo_4_004.jpg

Passalacqua attacked Kiserlovski on the downhill sector and he established a 24"-gap on him quickly:

11.5km to go and the Italian with a comfortable solo-lead now. The peloton is still 3 minutes in arrears!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Capo/MG15_Capo_4_005.jpg

Finally some action in the pack then:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/npn.png Rabon
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sev.png Mendes

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ice.png Omarsson

on the move with just 10km left! It's definitely about time to do something here..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Capo/MG15_Capo_4_006.jpg

Still about three minutes for Passalacqua and also all other early escapees are still in between him and the chasing favorites.

Mendes/Rabon managed to create a gap on the bunch, where DeLaval is now setting the pace for obvious reasons. Just a 29"-gap for Mendes with 8km remaining..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Capo/MG15_Capo_4_007.jpg

In the meantime, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gen.png Passalacqua celebrates a dominating victory! That's quite an answer on yesterday's losses and let's repeat, that he's likely to make a nice jump in the GC that way.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Capo/MG15_Capo_4_008.jpg

+ 58" for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sev.png Kiserlovski, who will gain valuable time as well..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Capo/MG15_Capo_4_009.jpg

Simantirakis is caught by Mendes/Rabon with the final km reached. Owsian just 15 seconds ahead with Rabon now accelerating!

The peloton though is 20 seconds in arrears and Pozdnyakov launches his sprint there. This will be close for Mendes/Rabon..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Capo/MG15_Capo_4_010.jpg

+ 2'03" for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Owsian, who holds off pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/npn.png Rabon and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sev.png Mendes

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/npn.png Pozdnyakov sprints for 6th ahead of Weber/Sarabia and that's too less of a gap, so they finish within the same time as Owsian/Rabon/Mendes! A missed opportunity for the GC-contenders to make it a selective race today.

+ 3'50" for a group with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/san.png Moreno Hernandez

+ 4'55" for a group with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sev.png Hirt

+ 5'48" for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ino.png Signorini, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Berard and some more pure climbers

Anything but a missed chance for Passalacqua though:

He moves up to 6th in the GC! Samoilev still leading ahead of Der and Pozdnyakov. Peterson keeping the polka dot by just two points on Moreno and Kiserlovski.
