First of two mountain stages to decide the race. Some very hard climbs here, but the finish is after the descent, so gaps must be opened on the uphill before.

Vuillermoz as KoM leader surely interested in the points but in especially Siutsout and Pomoshnikov really giving him a big fight here.
The first 3 KoM all go to Siutsou with Vuillermoz struggling to get the very big points.

In the peloton Festina is controlling the situation. They allow the breakaway a gap of 13min with 50km to go and this way most likely don`t go for the stage itself. It`s just the GC for Spilak today and all threats are behind inside the peloton.

A bit later though Venchi (Phinney) and Quickstep (Madrazo) higher the pace. First sign of what to come on the final climb?

First to attack though quite early on the climb is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Alarcon once more. This time though the others take care. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Spilak immediately follows as also:

Kolesnikov was caught again and is inside a 10 rider group around Madrazo, Martin, Denifl and Dekker as most notable alonside some helpers.
Behind them Tenorio and Cattaneo while all others are inside the big peloton where Good Energy, Pendleton`s, Oz Cycling and Chernobyl are chasing.

Spilak/Phinney/Alarcon still leading the GC riders 10min behind the breakaway though.
Behind them Martin, Denifl, Madrazo as also Kolesnikov and Hacecky.
Dekker and Tenorio follow 43s later ahead of Cattaneo and Yates. Then some solo riders such as Scarponi, Meintjes etc.

Chernobyl with a handful of riders chasing the peloton, while one rider really struggles today. Frank Schleck is behind the peloton in the next bigger group alonside Medvedev and Paterski.

The breakaway is down to 2.
Only Pomoshnikov and Siutsou are left. First surely to the favour of his manager, who expected such move by him after his crash.

6,5km to go on the descent already and Siutsou has gapped Pomoshnikov.

Back to the GC fight, Denifl has lost contact to Madrazo and Martin, who are behind parts of the break and not far behind the Spilak group.
The two peloton`s of Schleck and Chernobyl/Henao/Pinot are coming together as well again.

Big winner of the day though Siutsou. He takes the stage and will hugely improve his GC position as well today. Pomoshnikov comes in 2nd.
Unfortunatly for him though he misses the KoM jersey very close as he collected 58 to his 4 points today. But the 22 of Vuillermoz will also give him 62 in total, which means both riders are in the lead.

Hivert also ahead of the peloton as 3rd. All other riders got caught and so Spilak already in 4th as he gapped the opponents on the descent. +8'04 already.
In the bigger group behind him a mix of 8 riders including breakaway and GC riders Madrazo, Phinney, Alarcon. Those lose 40s to him.

Denifl and Martin another minute later, while Tenorio, Dekker, and the others lose quite a bit.
