Almost 20km uphill today and every rider for himself. Strength wise it`s expected to be Spilak vs. Madrazo. Some riders such as Alarcon, Tenorio, Denifl or Phinney aren`t much behind them though. So who is going to win and can Phinney defend the GC lead? 57s to Spilak.
Denifl is one of those diesel climbers and as shown in the Giro, mountain time trials suit him. So it`s not surprising that he takes the lead.
Dombrowski started a bit later and is 53s down but almost 1min ahead of Popovych, Morton and Ji!
Tenorio beats Denifl`s time at half time by 15s. Medvedev just ahead of him most likely being passed soon.
Coming into the finish the Spaniard is 28s faster and takes the lead. Other mentionable finishers are Duarte in 3rd and Cattaneo in 4th. Both lost a bit more than 1min.
Madrazo
was faster than Tenorio and did pass Henao Montoya! But second probably with a weaker day. Madrazo just beating his former team mate Tenorio by 8s!
Henao Montoya losing more than 3min only being 23rd at the moment.
Alarcon has won a mountain stage already. Today though he won`t repeat it. 3rd in the finish with 34s gap to Madrazo. Still a very solid time.
Martin as 5th in the finigh a bit more than 1min.
This must hurt. Dekker is an excellent climber and time trialist. But today he is passed by Spilak.
Not a surprise that last mentioned goes into the lead beating Madrazo by 31s. Quite a lot for similar strong climbers. Dekker still with a good ride as provisional 6th and 1'33 behind. It was just Spilak`s super strong ride today.
Only one rider left as Fothen finished 4min down. Yesterdays ride must have cost him a bit too much energy.
Phinney has lost 39s at half time. Since then it was hard to defend the GC lead as Spilak accelerated once more. In the end 6th for him with +1'25 which moves him into 2nd in hte GC 29s behind Spilak. Still quite a bit gap to Madrazo though.
