After a hard stage a flat rated one to relax. Though it`s far from flat only. 4 KoM already show some climbs but there are several not rated ones as well and also a late hill before the finish could make it a tough one for the sprinters.
Also the bookies rate others higher. Spilak, Van der Lijke and Phinney as top favourites. Then also puncheurs like Gautier, Koretzky, Palini, Kinoshita while only Goss and Howard appear as pure sprinters.

The breakaway surely has chances on such profile. 6 riders and also one of the favourite list today who also is best placed as 63th almost 17min back though.

Dieteren collected the most KoM points today with 17 ahead of Gautier (15) and Hoelgaard (11)/Hatanaka (2). Though they are far from the first few riders.
In the peloton it was Oz, Becherovka and Red Bull chasing the most with Venchi doing a bit for Phinney as well in between. Though while the gap was at 1min with 10km to go the last hill gave the break an advantage again as several sprinters clearly suffered there.
Also Vesuvio probably should have worked for Van der Lijke, which they didn`t though.

This results in an attack by Gautier in the last 5km and it looks like they could make it. Only Hatanaka, Hoelgaard and Lietaert are with him as the others have lost contact on that hill as well.

1,7km and Hatanaka almost closing the gap. Most probable one of those two will take the stage as the other two look exhausted while the peloton won`t catch them today as they clearly lost some time again on that hill when they had to slow down for the sprinters.

Still a couple of sprinters made it back to the front and are just around the corner. Though this must have cost a lot of energy for those! In a mix of GC riders and sprinters we see Stauff, Guerao, Van der Lijke, Howard, Lasca, Goss in the "trains".

Last kilometer and Gautier starts the sprint still having a small gap to Hatanaka.

And he keeps the gap to celebrate a nice win. It was a perfect stage for him with those hills on the profile. Hatanaka also with a nice 2nd with Hoelgaard and Lietaer coming next.

And as so often, Matthew Goss is winning a sprint when it`s just about places. 5th for him ahead of Dekker, Phinney, Van der Lijke, Spilak and Alarcon. So almost no sprinters in the first rows as those spend too much energy coming back after the hill while Goss was smarter and did not try to go into the most perfect position and instead saving some more energy and sprint from further behind.
