Graphics Options/Image Filtering

Less of a Technical Issue, more a Technical Question this one:

I've always been intrigued by the "Image Filtering" choices (Options>Graphics) in PCM, but have never played around with them.

For example, when I looked earlier it says that "Low" image filtering is recommended, while under Customisation of Colours the "De-saturated" option is described as "more neutral for a display closer to reality".

Will a Low filtering/De-saturated colours pairing create a noticeably improved visual experience that looks more "Real"? Or are all the options there a personal preference as to what works better?
