Olympia's Tour - Stage 7

Final stage of the race and we notice some heavy crosswinds again!

The sprinter teams struggled in the previous two road races guys like Ciolek and Vantomme will surely hope for a bunch sprint decision today..

It's another eventful race thanks to those tough conditions with now crosswinds up to 65kmh! The challenging finishing circuit and the high pace from the chasing teams Puma/TomTom causes some major damage in the pack and a crash with several riders involved also leads to a split with now just 22km remaining:

as the most notable names going down! It's sad news for Meier in particular, as the Canadian doesn't get on the bike again - he has to abandon from the race in this final stage!

And also those other names - as well as many more - will probably lose some time today!

18km to go and now we get a clear picture of the major splits in the pack:

24 riders are left in the first group with Puma and TomTom pulling the strings hard to bridge across the early break (45 seconds ahead)!

A group of 65 riders is already 1'20" in arrears and some notable names are caught on the wrong side of those splits:

That's all quite good news for the early break, as the reduced first chasing group with Fiedler/Cornu/Ciolek struggles to narrow the gap now:

5km before finish, Minnard attacks the leading group with group Fiedler a minute in arrears!

And even though TomTom really tried to provide Vantomme a chance to fight for line honours, it's indeed too late for this group to catch the early break!

But maybe more important for the GC, they manage to hold off the bigger bunch, that fights to limit the damage though..

Boom, Dempster next - Vantomme chanceless - and also Fiedler, Reus, Van Winden, Cornu and Reckweg finish savely in this group.

+ 2'29" for Kreuziger

+ 2'51" for the bigger group with Kupfernagel, Keukeleire, Rowe and Groenewegen/Pauwels!

+ 8'38" for group Stannard - tough luck with his crash, he will drop far down the GC

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/kar.png Fiedler did well to survive all those splits/crashes and takes out the Olympia's Tour 2015! After missing out on the win in the opening timetrial, that's great news for the team - especially as Kupfernagel couldn't take a stage neither.

Vingerling actually as the best sprinter here (and U25 winner), with his captain pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/tom.png Vantomme finishing as 13th in the GC. Pauwels dropping to 13th, Kreuziger as 12th and completing a nice overall result for RBC - despite Meier crashing out today.

Groenwegen 17th, Ciolek 19th, Ahlstrand 23rd in the final GC. So the big sprinters missed out on a big GC-result. Three breakaway victories and also the opening timetrial as the main reasons.
