Another short flat stage today - but it's the most challenging of the four flat profiles so far.. a few climbs halfway through the stage offer some points towards the KoM competition.

The sprinter teams though looked in control in the flat stages, so Swift should be considered the best bet today. Mohs fay fear the climbs, but delivered with two stage-wins.

The peloton kept all things together with an early intermediate sprint on the menu:

Swift takes it easily ahead of Tzortzakis and Vanderbiest, growing his points-lead (76 Swifty, Mohs 51)!

A few minutes later, we have our usual 4-men-breakaway group going clear from the pack. All new names, no one featured in a break here before:

Paillot (+ 16.11) as best placed in the GC and none of those four shows real interest in contesting for the four mountain sprints today..

Sagan (16pts), who entertain the audience by attacking each of those four sprints for minor points. Both would collect 4 points that way..

Oz's Gillett may not aim for the KoM, but still attacks the breakaway group on that final climb 52km before finish! Going for a long solo attempt or realizing that one could have done some damage in the KoM rankings?

The Aussie drops his former breakaway companions easily, the peloton is down by three minutes at this point.

And even though it looked like the pack wouldn't have much trouble to pull back Gillett (just as they swallowed the other escapees), there's still a minutes-gap with less than 3km to go!

This smells like a fail from teams like Vesuvio and Quickstep, which kept it too easy for this final sector of the race..
