Time for this 215km flat classic to be kicked off! Crosswinds up to 45kmh make for a challenging day in the saddle and so will the race itself.

Sprinters vs breakaway vs roleurs? Surely guys like Ciolek, Vantomme, Van Heerden or Boonen should be considered the favorites - trying to avoid a race like last year.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Berlin/MG15_Berlin_001.jpg

A first 12-men-group trying to go clear is pulled back quickly: Grand, Fumeaux, Petrus, Shirota, Tratnik, Orlov, Wetterhall, El Fares, Vassdal, D Silva, Erviti and Wijerathna as those going for a short-lived attempt.

Two of them wouldn't give up and make it to a 5-men-group, that will be the break of the day then:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rge.png Vink
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/spr.png Shirota
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbc.png Armee

This group's lead on the pack peaks at 7 minutes with still 140km left!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Berlin/MG15_Berlin_002.jpg

This gap is down to less than 2 minutes with now about 20km remaining. Teams like Evonik, Puma and Eritel (unsurprisingly) charing the duties of the work in the chase.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gzl.png Nardin now trying to escape from the pack, where Breschel/Nuyens went for an empty-handed attempt a few minutes before!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Berlin/MG15_Berlin_003.jpg

The peloton looked in control for most of the race, but with now just 11km remaining, there gap remains at 1'10" on the still leading early break!

Fumeaux tries to go for a solo-attempt, while Nardin couldn't catch up to those five!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Berlin/MG15_Berlin_004.jpg

Fumeaux's been caught by Konte, Vink and Shirota, who now drop Armee/Fumeaux with less than 7km left and still the same gap on the peloton!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gnu.png Del Nero now attacking the pack - he did this already last year..

Puma, Eritel and Evonik not looking too well placed at the front of the bunch, but fighting to keep their dreams alive..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Berlin/MG15_Berlin_005.jpg

They enter the long finishing stretch with still a notable gap on the leading break - where Vink and Konte opened up a small gap in the meantime!

Kinda chaotic sprint preparation in the pack then, with no team really capable of pulling a properly working train here. At the front now:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pum.png Ciolek/Demare
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/aeg.png Groenewegen
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mac.png Granjel Cabrera
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ers.png Van Heerden/Van der Sande
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sbp.png Ahlstrand
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/tom.png Vantomme
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/amx.png Baugnies/Breschel
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/kar.png Haussler
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ken.png Impey

and a few more names trying to move forward to the front...

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Berlin/MG15_Berlin_006.jpg

This might be too late for line honours though, as Vink drops Konto and he still maintains a comfortable gap on the sprinters..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Berlin/MG15_Berlin_007.jpg

..who at least catch up to the remaining early escapees (except of Konte):

Groenewegen, Cabrera, Ciolek and Ahlstrand with early kicks, Van Heerden, Haussler, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/eaf.png Bouhanni and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ayu.png Bel Kadri all going past Impey!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Berlin/MG15_Berlin_008.jpg

But the biggest news first: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rge.png Vink holds on til the line and takes a huge victory for himself and his team. He's the second Kiwi to win this classic after George Bennett won last year (also out of the early break)!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Berlin/MG15_Berlin_009.jpg

Konte fighting to hold off the nearing sprinters, but he's suffering from his efforts now:

Ahlstrand, Cabrera and Groenewegen still there..

Impey and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/evo.png Boonen clearly the fastest now, coming from far behind!

Ciolek totally cracking, while Haussler, Van Heerden, Bel Kadri/Petit and Bouhanni (as well as Bellis) are going past him..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Berlin/MG15_Berlin_010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sbp.png Ahlstrand, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ken.png Impey and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mac.png Granjel Cabrera next on the line!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ken.png Konte hanging on for 5th place ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/evo.png Boonen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/kar.png Haussler, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/aeg.png Groenewegen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ers.png Van Heerden and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ayu.png Bel Kadri!

Bellis 12th, Ciolek 16th, Vantomme 21st (as disappointing as last year), Vaitkus 18th, Del Nero 20th...

Pretty similar to last year, but the sprinters at least fought for the runner-up today. Still another fail from the pack, which may blame things onto those crosswinds and general bad mood though.
