The profile of the only flat rated stage here looks hand-made for local favorite Impey, who hasn't shown anything in the first two days.

Of course also McEvoy, Ventoso, Gavazzi, Geschke or Kreder, Hoffman and Mansilla should be considered real threats if it comes down to a bunch sprint.

A group of 4 riders went clear early and we do have something like a breakaway-team here:

So Eddie Stobart joining the break of the day for the third time in three days! The crowd across the road will also love to see the South African NC shirt be represented in this group.

And will the peloton struggle as it did two days ago? Still a way to go, but the early escaping group holds on to a minute-gap with now just 7km remaining! There's plenty of action in the bunch though, as several GC-contenders tried to go clear from the pack on one of today's last short climbs:

as those four, who then actually managed to open up a small gap on the chasing bunch! It's still an unsettled race, with several teams interested to pull them back..

And of course, there's still the breakaway ahead.. Jelfs, Earle and Smirnovs leading the race into the final 2kms, while Van Zyl got dropped and swallowed by the bunch!

This is going to be close today: the trio still ahead inside the final kilometre, but the bunch sprint is on it's way with the way better speed now!

Just a few hundred metres left and the leading trio - with Jelfs leading - really suffers from it's effort! Will they hold on til the end?

Geschkke, Hugenhaben/Kreder, Mansilla and Craven moving forward with great speed, with McEvoy and Meyer trying to hang on..

What an unlucky timing for the escapees, as they see today's fastest sprinters go past them with just a few metres remaining:

Mansilla, Craven and Geschke likely to battle for the win.. also McEvoy, who's by far the quickest now..

..but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bon.png Mansilla goes for line honours! A tight sprint and he finishes ahead of Craven, McEvoy, Geschke and Hugenhaben.

Another failure from Impey, who crosses the line as 31st.. at least some GC-conteners gave it a try today, such as Ben Nasser and Monfort as the most active.

Mansilla moving up to 6th, Craven 7th, Jelfs 8th and also McEvoy gains some minor seconds on many other GC-favorites, who are still 1'31" on GC-leader Didier!
