Going into the 3rd week, regeneration is more and more a big issue for the riders. 178 are left. 17 riders abandoned. Riccardo Ricco is having a huge Giro here and is only one week from a 2nd GC win here. That said the hilly stages that delivered him such lead are done. Now a couple of hard mountain stages and in especially 2 time trials, one of those only flat though. All those should suit the better climbers more.
Todays stage actually is the last, where he could have an advantage as the flat rated stage has a late hill, which possibly is only an uphill sprint.

Nice information for Bouygues manager. While their star rider here in pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/btc.png

Roelandts has hugely disappointed so far and did not show a lot of interest, his team is working today. Indeed this finish might suit him as he is one of the fastest and performs a lot better on the hillier terrain.

At times also Red Bull, Oz and Festina did support them. But the gap couldn`t fully be closed. We are already on that final climb. 3km to go for the breakaway and a few hundred meters more for the peloton where we see sprint trains! Interesting idea on such climb. At least Bouygues indeed is doing one with Red Bull doing it for Guerao. Skujins on top definitely a huge leadout on this climb.

Deignan has a small gap. Can he make it another victory for Pendleton`s? After yesterdays success the team surely with great motivation.

Skujins was great leadout for Red Bull. Chen clearly wasn`t. So Guerao had to search for a better wheel and definitely found it just behind Roelandts, who still has Hopman ahead.
On the right Goss with Kump behind him. Also Guardini impressively strong on this climb. Napolitano, Vesely, Kennaugh, Colbrelli a bit behind. Tzortzakis nowhere in the front rows as clearly the work he is doing on every hard stage is now paying back.
Still a gap to the front but it`s flatter now.

Guerao very strong. He even goes past Roelandts after the steepest part. That said, still 5% here. Gap is getting smaller though.

Under the Flamme Rouge Prevar in the lead. De Bie going around him though. The climb is done. Back to flat roads for the final km.

And indeed the break is able to keep that gap to the sprinters. And De Bie is the strongest. He beats Prevar on the line. Still yet another solid result by Chernobyl here.
Danacik comes in as 3rd.

Prevar showing himself, great. Hope he can do something again later this Giro, perhaps at stage 15 which looks interesting.

Strong sprint by Guerao, who comes in as 7th. 22s behind the break though, where only Braico got caught.
Roelandts with a decent sign. But too late as except for the final day, all sprint stages are gone now.

The action though is not over yet. After ~50 riders a gap opened on that climb and we hear that a few GC riders weren`t attentive. Those lose 65s today:
