Saving stage races

Does anyone know how to save your progress in a stage race and where it gets saved?

I have done this before and can see old stage races when I try to load but I cannot save new ones.

Thanks for the help!
I bet all my PCM$ on Froome winning the Vuelta

Just to clarify this is for playing stage races, not creating them.

Progress is automatically saved during stage races. Just quit and then load game in the menu like you do for career mode.
