Giro d'Italia - Stage 3

Last Giro stage here in Greece and while it`s yet again a flat rated stage, we see some mini Milan San Remo ending. Also the length of almost 250km is not easy for sure. Other than that a pan flat stage and only one sprint today.
Question is if the sprinters make it over those late hills and decide todays stage or if the roleurs and GC riders once more beat them.

5 riders in todays breakaway and today Chernobyl were successful.

Similar scenario as yesterday. Red Bull, Festina and Vesuvio do the early pace to avoid a too big gap.
Then at half time Oz Cycling and Metinvest support them while Vesuvio as pure GC team here is stopping their effort. The gap never really became too big today and was always around 3min. Same now with 50km left.

With 8km to the finish they are caught. Again Pozzovivo was sent to the front for the last kilometers. But will this cost him energy he needs for the mountain stages? At least he will avoid any crashes this way. Obviously the sprinter teams have no problem with the hills as they are too short and too easy to really struggle.

Festina clearly having the strongest sprint train in the Giro. Oz is trying to challenge them though while Red Bull really struggles to bring Guerao into position.
And unfortunately again Roelandts seems to avoid those sprints, which is really a pain to see.

Also the GC riders and the Maglia Rosa are not far behind those and it could become interesting.

Ulanowski, Guardini and Colbrelli are the lucky riders, who found the wheels of the strongest sprint trains.
All others had to switch over behind Guerao. This includes Van Poppel and Napolitano.
Next to Roelandts also German sprinter Stauff is missing today. He though is slowly coming forward and is in 20th position now.

Oz had one rider less for quite some time in this sprint. Still Li is proving to have some power. He is having the shorter way in this corner and goes into the lead. Gasparotto had just left and so Colbrelli should be fresh to leadout Tzortzakis for a longer time.
Red Bull train chaos so it`s good for them that Guerao has found himsels behind those two trains, though he had to spend quite some energy for this move.

What a leadout by Coquard. Still in the front while Goss has to go into the wind now.
Tzortzakis, Colbrellis, Guerao, Ulanowski, Guardini look the best now.
All others a bit of a gap including KEnnaugh and Stauff but also Napolitano who was so strong yesterday.

Actually Roelandts with a first sign. He just does not like to place himself it seems. He is behind Kennaugh, Guerao and Vesely in ~15th position now. Should have placed himself much better and be with the very best.
As you can see the Red Bull sprinter struggles as he is the one ahead of Roelandts. Surely he would have loved to have a proper leadout instead of those he has. Libin Chen even thinks he is more awesome and mixes the top riders up today. Red Bull wannabe sprinters.

This way the guy with a proper sprint leadout takes the stage. Nicely done by Festina and great win for Tzortzakis.
It was really close in the end though as Goss came in 2nd just behind him. Colbrelli in 3rd and Guardini in 4th ahead of Ulanowski and Chen are surely some surprises today.
Kennaugh, Coquard and then Guerao and Vesely.
Stauff, Napolitano and Roelandts just behind as next.

All riders finished within the same time today, which is quite a result on such a long stage and late hills. Actually half of the peloton was lucky though as there was one gap but some crazy Oz helper decided to sprint and finished just in the middle of that gap to save all those in the later part which actually included riders like Suaza, Ratiy, Krasnoperov, Solis and in general those weak flat riders within the climbers.
