Finally, it's here. The official press conference was held just a few minutes earlier and here is the official announcement of the team. We can confirm that the German group behind the team management bought the World Tour licence from Giant, who ended its sponsoring.

„We are very proud to present our team manager and sports director, Jens Voigt, who will have the honor to be the head man of the new era in German cycling. Althought we aren't building this team from scratch, we definitely want to make the cycling in our way and build this team around the German core. And we believe that Jens Voigt is the right man to lead this.

Also we want to present our main sponsor – Alpecin. We believe it will be long and successful cooperation. We agreed on 5-year long contract with them and for the first season they will be the only big sponsor of our team.“

Jens Voigt: „When I was talking with the people behind this project, I was very excited by their plans and vision for future. I was agreed with Trek Factory Racing to stay in Trek, but this is really big opportunity for me and Trek make it possible to happen. I want to thank all the people who support me and I hope it will be great episode in my life and also great times for German fans of cycling.“

So it's... Since 2015 we could see the German team in the peleton again with the logo of Alpecin on their jerseys with the official name Alpecin Cycling Team. As they said in the press conference, Alpecin is for now the only one big sponsor of the team. Anyway, Shimano still is an important partner of the team and the team found out big another equipment sponsors these will be presented later.
