Tour of the Middle East - Stage 11
tsmoha
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_11_000.png

The 43km flat timetrial in and around Abu Dhabi will most likely be the last chance for any GC-battles. And we do have two thrilling battles:

Signorini (65 TT) vs Lowe (71) for the overall victory (seperated by 55 seconds)

Soler (66) vs Hirt (69) vs Gilanipoor (68) vs Quintero (66) for the podium (seperated by 12 seconds)

Top-favorite for the stage-win should be GC's 14th Novak (76), who's also aiming to enter the Top-10 in the GC today..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_11_001.jpg

As we will focus on those mentioned GC-battles, let's keep it short for the earlier action:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ioc.png Novak lives up to his role as the favorite and crushes the earlier competition by 50" on a strong riding pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ino.png Manulang!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_11_002.jpg

GC's 8th pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gat.png Brandt does quite well, too, finishing 1'15" slower than Novak as today's 5th behind Jones and Kasa.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ice.png Bagot, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/tt1.png Peterson and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/alp.png Weber all dropping a spot in the GC, with Brandt moving up to 7 and Novak going from 14 to 9 eventually..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_11_003.jpg

This is likely to be the stage result, as we won't see any too special TTler in those Top-6 of the GC..

..so now for the podium fight, who's as narrow as narrow can be:

DiffDiffDiffDiff
3Mauricio SOLER-
4Jan HIRT+ 9
5Abolfazl GILANIPOOR+ 11
6Richard OCHOA QUINTERO+ 12

Hirt and Gilanpoor as the (slightly) better riders against the clock. Soler will at least try to hold off Ochoa and maybe defend the podium on a good day..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_11_004.jpg

Looking at the first split, Ochoa Quintero probably won't repeat last year's overall podium here: he's the worst of those four battling for the podium, already 1'10" slower than Novak as well.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_11_005.jpg

At the second split, Gilanipoor is doing okay, though not yet able to keep up with Hirt and just a second ahead of Soler in the virtual GC:

3Mauricio SOLER---
4Jan HIRT+ 9- 11- 28
5Abolfazl GILANIPOOR+ 11- 4- 12

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_11_007.jpg

So it ain't a surprise to see pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sev.png Hirt finishing as best of those four, which will bring him the 3rd place in the GC today. Gilanipoor doing just enough to go past Soler, too:

3Mauricio SOLER----
4Jan HIRT+ 9- 11- 28- 35
5Abolfazl GILANIPOOR+ 11- 4- 12- 15
6Richard OCHOA QUINTERO+ 12+ 19+ 47+ 1'01

And now for the GC-victory! Lowe as the better against the clock, though facing quite a gap to make up:

RkRiderGCSplit #1Split #2Finish
DiffDiffDiffDiff
1Gian P SIGNORINI-
2Trent LOWE+ 55

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_11_008.jpg

The Aussie is faster at the first split - as to be expected:

RkRiderGCSplit #1Split #2Finish
DiffDiffDiffDiff
1Gian P SIGNORINI--
2Trent LOWE+ 55- 17

Still a way to go for both..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_11_009.jpg

Signorini is fighting hard and given this skills in TTs, he's still doing quite well overall:

RkRiderGCSplit #1Split #2Finish
DiffDiffDiffDiff
1Gian P SIGNORINI---
2Trent LOWE+ 55- 17- 46

This is going to be really close at the finish! Lowe still has to gain ten seconds in this final sector and he's surprisingly low in the rankings with already 2'10" lost on Novak at this point. So he's slower than Hirt, for example..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_11_010.jpg

But is it still enough to take the GC-lead?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cpl.png Lowe + 2'48" on Novak as 25th today..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ino.png Signorini + 3'48" as 38th.. exactly a minute..

RkRiderGCSplit #1Split #2Finish
DiffDiffDiffDiff
1Gian P SIGNORINI----
2Trent LOWE+ 55- 17- 46- 1'00

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_11_011.jpg

And that's indeed enough for Lowe to re-take the lead by just 5 seconds! So we may see an even closer GC-victory than Rodridgues' 7 seconds last year. Tough luck for a huge fighting Signorini.

Tomorrow's final stage will be panflat, so unless anything special happens, this may be it for Lowe.
