Tour of the Middle East - Stage 9
tsmoha
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_9_000.png

Another key stage ahead, featuring a looong way up a tough summit finish. A short stage (110km), but definitely one of the most brutal finish climbs here.

Lowe slipped into the race lead thanks to a great attack yesterday. Will Signorini bounce back today? Also Hirt, Ochoa Quintero and Soler looked strong so far, while Gilanipoor may have to work for Lowe now.

A fairly large break of the day, as we see 9 riders being allowed to go clear for a gap peaking at eight minutes halfway through this short stage:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/aks.png Wilman
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sod.png Gallopin
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ice.png Bagot (GC's 17th, + 6.24)
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/tt1.png Swift-Metcalfe
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png Ebsen
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fwt.png Ndbri (19th, + 6.39)
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/act.png Nakane
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pum.png Weber (21st, + 6.52)
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gat.png Pancake

Three decent climbers making it into this group, which should things make interesting today.. no one challenging for the three mountain sprints, by the way.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_9_002.jpg

We're jumping straight into the final climb and even though the breakaway's gap appeared to be huge for most of the day, the group's advantage is down to 54" now. Once the top-teams started to pace, there's also the first major splits back in the bunch.

A group of 8 riders goes clear with now 17km remaining:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Ochoa Quintero
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sev.png Hirt
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cpl.png Lowe, Gilanipoor
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ino.png Signorini, Chawchiankuong
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gat.png Brandt
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/alp.png Soler

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/tt1.png Peterson (GC's 10th) already a minute in arrears.

Another group with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Berard (8th) and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/scl.png Suryadi (7th) further 30 seconds behind!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_9_003.jpg

At the very front, it's an elimination now: the break of the day quickly went into pieces with only pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ice.png Bagot holding on to the minutes-gap on the group of top-favorites!

The Frenchman puts up a huge fight through the crowd, entering the final 5km with an 1'19"-gap on group Lowe/Signorini!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_9_004.jpg

And here goes the former race-leader: 4km before finish, Signorini attacks the chasing group! He definitely needs to put pressure on Lowe, who tries to follow - just like Ochoa Quintero.

Hirt/Soler/Weber can't counter, so the GC's 2nd looks in serious trouble now!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_9_005.jpg

And yes, Hirt suffers big time, as Signorini went for a super-strong move there! The best climber in the field dropped Lowe and Ochoa quite easily and Hirt finds himself being almost 2 minutes behind Signorini with now less than 2km remaining!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_9_006.jpg

Signorini probably won't take the stage, but what a gap he opened up here: Lowe couldn't follow and is down by a minute, yet holding off Ochoa at least!

Hirt fighting his way up those steep slopes, but he will lose his 2nd place for sure..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_9_007.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ice.png Bagot with a huge win here. Entering the stage as 17th in the GC and given all those gaps behind him so far, he's likely to make a huge jump in the GC as well. Great day for his team.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_9_008.jpg

+ 57" for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ino.png Signorini, who delivered as well..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_9_009.jpg

+ 2'20" for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cpl.png Lowe eventually!

What a ride from Signorini there. Lowe gave him a fight, but had no chance at all..

+ 2'48" for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Ochoa Quintero, now aiming for the podium..

+ 3'37" for group pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sev.png Hirt/pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/alp.png Soler

The 10th on the stage - Peterson - finishes already more than 6 minutes behind Bagot, so we will see some notable changes in the GC today!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_9_010.jpg

Signorini of course re-taking the lead, but Lowe did quite well to limit the damage, now sitting 22" behind today's strongest top-favorite. As the better timetrialer Lowe is, Signorini may have to grow this lead tomorrow. The Aussie, by the way, taking a tied KoM-lead with Squire for now.

Quintero going onto 3rd with now more than two minutes disadvantage, while Hirt drops onto 4th. Bagot moving up ten places to 7th! Huge effort.

Again some DNFs today, with more sprinters quitting the race: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ice.png Vanderaerden, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png Rasmussen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fxg.png Giacoppo as the most notable names.
