Tour of the Middle East - Stage 4
tsmoha
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_4_000.png

First mountain stage and it does feature a quite steep, while not too long, summit finish up the "Marterhorn".

New GC-leader Bauer may have to step back and support the stronger climbers in his team: Gilanipoor or Lowe as possible favorites for the stage. Just like Signorini, Ochoa Quintero and a few more strong climbers.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_4_001.jpg

We see the biggest breakaway group of the whole tour so far, as 6 riders break clear early into the stage:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/act.png Feng
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sod.png Chaabane
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png Schoffmann
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Lejman
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gat.png Ardila
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sev.png Kasa (GC's 42nd, + 3.04)

Lejman and Kasa as the most notable names. Lejman more or less failed in the hilly stages and instead, he tries today..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_4_002.jpg

Kasa took both intermediate sprints as best-placed in the GC.. With now 33km to go, and the penultimate ascend being climbed, the breakaway's gap is at 2'30" and therefore not as huge as yesterday.

A few serious GC-contenders attack the peloton now:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/aks.png Seeldraeyers
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cpl.png Gilanipoor
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sev.png Hirt

are followed by

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ioc.png Novak
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/alp.png Soler
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/spr.png Suryadi

So some of the top-favorites with an early move and Compal apparently not caring too much about Bauer's GC-lead. No surprise though.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_4_003.jpg

It's an empty-handed attempt from those latest attackers, as they are all pulled back by the bunch on the downhill sector. The peloton would enter the final climb with still a gap on the early break, but the pace is quite brutal now.

About 3km to go and the leading group is going into pieces, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sev.png Kasa now trying to drop the remaining Schoffmann, Chaabane and Ardila..

Just a few seconds in arrears, the more and more reduced peloton, where Soler went for another short-lived attack in the meantime..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_4_004.jpg

2km remaining and Kasa now leading solo about 32" ahead of the first chasing group, which swallows Schoffmann/Chaabane/Ardila now.. 24 riders in this bigger group, with a few notable names being dropped in the meantime:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cpl.png Bauer
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Zielinski
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/alp.png Weber
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cpl.png Dyachenko
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ino.png Nieve

So the GC's Top-3 are dropped, which may just be surprising as for Weber. Alpina still counting on Soler at least..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_4_005.jpg

Final kilometre for Kasa, who's now struggling to maintain his small gap! The chasing group, led by Hirt now, is catching up quickly and the first riders are launching their sprint. 17 riders in this group now, time for an overview then:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sev.png Kasa
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sev.png Hirt
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cpl.png Gilanipoor, Lowe
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ino.png Signorini
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Ochoa Quintero
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png Koep
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/alp.png Soler
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Berard
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gat.png Brandt
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/aks.png Esquivel, Seeldraeyers
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/tt1.png Peterson
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ioc.png Hardy
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ice.png Løvik
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/act.png Ikibe
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/spr.png Suryadi

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_4_006.jpg

Kasa chanceless in the final hundred metres, as he's suffering from his fight so far..

Signorini goes into the leading position with the final corner ahead and Hirt/Lowe one bike length in arrears already! Koep, Soler and Quintero in striking distance..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_4_007.jpg

..but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ino.png Signorini with a perfectly timed sprint to take out the first mountain stage ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cpl.png Lowe and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sev.png Hirt! This 17-men-group finishes with the same time, so Signorini with valuable bonifications at least.

+ 44" for a small group with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ioc.png Novak/Sonnery

+ 1'21" for a next group with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fxg.png Roe and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ino.png Nieve

+ 2'35" for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ioc.png Rosskopf

+ 3'05" for the peloton with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cpl.png Bauer, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Zielinski, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/alp.png Weber and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/alp.png Godoy

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_4_008.jpg

Bauer obviously losing the GC-lead: Signorini taking over by just 4" on Hirt and 8" on Lowe. A nice aggressive race by Hirt today, but Signorini lived up to his role as the top-favorite for the mountain stages.

Soler, Hardy, Quintero, Gilanipoor and Suryadi all just 20" behind and then we've Novak as 9th with already a minute of disadvantage..
