Next hilly stage, again featuring a flat finish. Still a challenging profile with three quite steep climbs in the second half of the stage.
Zielinski took out two stages so far and proved his speed yesterday.. the GC-leader should be considered today's top-favorite in a bunch sprint. Or will we finally see more big guns attacking?
At least, we will (again) see a quite strong puncheur/roleur in the break of the day:
Bauer (GC's 6th, + 0.58)
Bissinger
went clear early in the stage, building a gap up to 4 minutes halfway through the stage. Bauer with a rather surprising move. The duo was later joined by
Delgerbayar, who caught up to the leading group about 75km before finish.
Bauer would take both intermediate sprints to collect valuable bonifications, while none of those three would care too much about the mountain sprints..
Which is kinda surprising, as they were quite some points up for grabs today. Delgerbayar couldn't hang on with Bauer/Bissinger, who pass the last climb with still a 3-minutes-gap on the bunch:
KoM Squire 38 Khalilikhosroshani 36 Bauer 33
Bissinger, by the way, is ten minutes down in the GC, but Bauer is a real threat for GC-leader Zielinski now! About 10km before finish, In-n-Out would lead the peloton (69 riders) into the final flat sector, but the gap to the leading duo is still at 2'40" there! The breakaway will definitely take the stage at least..
Bauer would kick off the sprint, but Bissinger outsprints him quite easily. We're sorry to miss out on the finish-pic, but congrats to Bissinger for the victory today.
The Kiwi though may not be too sad, as there's still quite a gap between those two and the chasing peloton/Zielinski...
+ 59" for Zielinski, who's again the fastest in the pack to complete the stage podium! Given Bauer's disadvantage of less than minute prior to the stage, Zielinski will lose the GC-lead for sure. At least, he grew his points-lead despite missing out on a third consecutive stage-win..
Bauer indeed taking the GC-lead by 17" on Zielinski and more than a minute on Weber/Proni/Hirt, who round up the Top-5.. tomorrow's first mountain stage features a quite challenging uphill finish, so we can expect some significant changes then.
Bauer as the less stronger climber in his team (Dyachenko, Gilanipoor or Lowe as possible GC-favorites) will be interesting to follow there.
