Next key stage today: a challenging hilly profile, featuring a short uphill finish. Any GC-contender, who lost big time yesterday, will need to bounce back today.

Will Serrano manage to keep the GC-lead? We've of course way stronger puncheurs amongst the GC-favorites..

So opposing to yesterday, we may not see a real GC-threat in the early break. It's still about line honours and the polka dot, of course..

Halfway through the stage, the leading four were joined by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/scl.png

Boonratanathanakorn, who attacked solo on today's longest climb. No GC-threat either. And Jeannesson would collect 26pts towards the KoM-competition to jump on the provisional 2nd place there.

We're already in the crucial finale now, where the still leading breakaway group goes into pieces with "Boony" soloing away with a strong kick!

He goes solo for the final 10km and still leads by 2 minutes on the peloton with now just 8km remaining!

This is, where we see the first GC-action today, as a group of 6 riders opens up a small gap on the bunch now:

Also Serrano tried to follow on first hand, but is back in the field for now. Except of Machado and Contador, all those attackers lost quite some time yesterday.

Of course some more GC-favorites would try to follow, but Kwiatkowski/Machado/Contador would launch another acceleration a few minutes later, dropping Bibby/Cataldo and Valls quite easily.

4km to go for those chasing groups (Boony still leading solo by more than a minute on Machado/Contador) and there's a next bigger group formed now - a minute behind Machado though:

So Abal and Intxausti again in trouble. The latter not even trying to join all those attacks now! Looking at all those small groups, we will definitely see some notable changes in the GC today!

A next group with Cataldo, Nepomnyachsniy and Bibby comes in at 1'40", while Keizer fought hard to limit the damage: losing about a minute on Machado eventually.

Brajkovic, Valls, Marquez and Rujano ten seconds behind Keizer, while Abal finishes as 18th about two minutes behind Machado..

GC-leader

Serrano unsurprisingly suffered today, losing about 3 minutes on Machado. The race-lead is gone, but he keeps the mountain shirt for now.

Another disastrours stage for Intxausti, Eastman and Kiserlovski, who all finish in the same group/bunch to lose big time today.. did they already give up on the GC?

Machado takes over the leader shirt from Serrano, with Contador as new 2nd with 38 seconds.. Keizer did quite well to stay in striking distance, too: 1'19" is something, he can gain back in the long timetrial.

Kwiatkowski with a huge jump onto 7th, where also Nepomnyachsniy as 8th did well so far. Biggest disappointments: Abal (14th), Intxausti (19th), Eastman (24th) and Kiserlovski (27th).
