First non-flat day brings us some hills. Today’s stage is probably the toughest to predict, but with so many ups and downs there’s bound to be lots of action!

There’s lots of interest in the breakaway which translates in a reasonable-sized group with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pro.png Ruijgh, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ayu.png Vuilermoz, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Gillet, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/tcs.png Brutt, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gde.png Locatelli and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mus.png Abreu

The intermediate honours were largely undisputed with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/tcs.png Brutt taking the KoM and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mus.png Abreu taking the sprint.

Meanwhile, the 2 last KoM points in dispute for the pack were hardly fought between pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/scl.png Boulahdouz, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/btc.png Portela and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Hacécky, with the Czech taking them. These 3 actually managed to get up to the front group.

The KoM leader eventually decided to call it quits and let himself be caught by the pack. He’s making a name for himself here!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vsa.png Vesuvio isn’t keen on letting the front group gather too much of an advantage. With 90km left the gap is less than 2min already!

In 20km they catch the rest of the escapees, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Hacécky is dropped.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pnd.png Pendelton’s decide to take care of the chasing effort and in doing that they decimate the gap. It’s all together with 50km to the line.

A new break sets up in no time though with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Chamorro, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/scl.png Sella, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/akm.png Nesset, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ayu.png Kadri, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gde.png Cuming, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mei.png Zaini and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ayu.png Elissonde

They create a 1’30 advantage in little over 10km. That takes Festina, Aker, Bacardi and Vesuvio to the front of the pack. This makes a lot of riders start suffering.

There’s a crash during a downhill section. It’s pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Mestre and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ven.png Pirazzi. Most importantly pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ven.png Venchi drops Duarte, Teunissen and Yates in order to rescue the Italian. The italian team really has been struck by bad luck so far in this race!

The front group has 2min to the pack with 30km to go. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ayu.png Kadri, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Chamorro and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gde.png Cuming decide to initiate hostilities in the 3rd to last climb!

Attack! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/akm.png Dan Martin enjoys that same climb to breakaway from the pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Festina-led pack, who catches Elissonde.

He has a team mate up front and this could be a decisive move from the Norwegians here. In the front group the riders are getting scattered through the road with constant attacks.

We reach the final kilometer and all of a sudden appears pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Spilak! He flies past these two chasers and fastly approaches the race leader…

But the Slovene only manages to make a cameo on the victory photo. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Chamorro provides his team a second consecutive stage victory before we tackle the mountains. Chapeau to them!
