Time for the climbers and GC-contenders to shine: the queen stage features a long summit finish, which is quite steep on the final 5kms. Pure climbers will need to gain valuable time on allrounders here.

Rujano as the top-favorite, with also Van den Broeck, Nazaret, local favorite Berhane and last year's 2nd Kiserlovski as promising contenders. There's of course a few more riders capable of joining the mix for line honours though..

After seeing some well known names like David Arroyo going for early moves (all brought back quickly), it's then a 4-men-group managing to break clear right before today's four mountain sprints:

So quite a strong group for the break of the day. Given the two Cat2-climbs on the menu today, it's definitely a promising day to attack the polka dot from Edet (who, by the way, would attack the bunch later on, trying to collect as many points as possible today).

It's not meant to be for Edet though, as Raisin pretty much dominated the four sprints to take the (provisional lead):

Txurruka would then take out the only intermediate sprint for bonus seconds. The group's gap goes down to 2'40" with the long summit finish approaching (about 40km before finish)..

It's an action-packed race quite early into this climb then. A group of 4 riders attacked the bunch 39km before finish:

The biggest move though just happens about 31km before finish, as we see the very top-favorite with a surprising early attack here:

Rujano launches (a first) serious move! That's kinda "wow", to say at least!

But, to keep it short, he couldn't really open up a gap and was brought back by the bunch soon. Wasted energy then? Still a long way to go, of course. The early breakaway wouldn't stand a chance, that's certain. With the dangerous chasing group also being pulled back a few minutes later, the bunch (down to 50 riders in the meantime) is alltogether with now just 8km remaining.

Well, he's definitely looking strong and opens up a 24"-gap with now 4km to go. The group behind goes into pieces, with just 11 riders building the new chasing group:

Just 3km to go now and we see the next attack by Rujano! He quickly catches up to Mat Senan, while Valls and Kwiatkowski at least try to hang on with his strong kick.

Rujano established a comfortable gap quickly and went strong towards the finish then. He easily dropped Senan and Valls/Kwiat to take out the queen stage in style! Despite his failed attack earlier on, the mountain goat crushed the competition eventually.

Kiserlovski completing the Top-5, losing additional seconds. Also Nazaret (1.51) or Bennett (2.01) lost valuable seconds in this sprint.

Van den Broeck (2.39), who apparently just didn't have the legs today. Both will need to bounce back from this in the remaining two key (hilly) stages!

Rujano will enter the second half of the race as the new GC-leader ahead of Iglinski and Kwiat. The latter already very strong in the mountains and he is expected to be a real threat for the hilly stages as well.
