I didn't play PCM 14, but I plan to return to play 15.
I just got a simple question; Young fictional riders being generated by the game, do they still come with ridiculous names that makes no sense and which are as unrealistic as they come??
In the Football manager series Young generated players coming through the youth ranks are done very well, given realistic first and last names matching the nation/region they come from, and they even come with generated faces that are done fairly well. Being able to put a face to your riders gives them more "life" I guess, and is good for immersion. Without the face they tend to be just a name on a screen...
I've always thought PCM could learn from that.
So any improvements done on this since PCM 12 and 13 ? |

I'm pretty sure they have generated faces now, but I'm not sure if names are better. |

This is something that the expansion pack people do take care of, I know the PCM.Daily expansion pack adds much better depth to this aspect of the game, and are already working on adding it to the EP for PCM15.

I don't know if they're ridiculous, but they're probably not perfect.
Luckily there are some DBs that will change the regen names.
And I don't think comparing PCM to Football Manager is a good idea, FM has what, 20 times a bigger budget?
Plus, I wouldn't like everyone having a face in 3D mode. You cannot see the faces often(only when they look up) and they slow down the game quite a bit.
Ah yes they have basic faces generated, but only a few different ones.

It's really easy to add faces if they're missing though! You literally just need to add a 64x64 tga image with the photo under Gui\cyclist_photo (hello Paint.NET)
Then with an editor like Lachi's, find your cyclist and just write the file name (without the extension, like for example "acontador" ). I don't remember the field's name but you will find it easily
I always did it. I even changed the names of the young riders sometimes, actually
This is the first time I see someone complaining about the names though, lol |

You misunderstood me. I didn't mean faces in the races. That is unimportant, especially since I almost exclusively use the helicopter camera. I meant faces that show in the rider-profiles/menus next to their name. |

Yeah, i know how to convert pic-files to TGA and to how to include them in the game. Done that much, but that's only for the real riders, not the generated/fictional riders coming through.
You really never been bothered by the names? That the names of the real riders are changed and made really weird obviously has to do with licence, or lack thereof. A realname DB will fix that - Fair enough, but I refer to the Young riders coming through the youth ranks, as I said. No reason they shouldn't be given realistic names

Again, I just don't understand what you mean. I never paid too much attention admittedly, but I don't remember them being so unrealistic ? Unless you're talking about real-life young riders but that would pose a license problem again.
As for the faces, yeah, I can't remember but I guess you cannot set a face for U23 riders. However, I mean, you can't even race with them and they don't appear in your squad, so what's the point?
Once you sign them, they will appear in your list and you can set it.
That said, andy suggested that in PCM2015 they have faces, which would be a good thing considering the bigger role of your dev squad (unless he was confusing that the faces-in-race). I hope that now it's possible to set them too. |

I can understand Your confusion, but look here. After a certain amount of years in the game, the REAL WORLD riders will retire, right, and generated youth riders will come up and become seniors. Then, when they are seniors and sign for a team, you can click their names to open their rider profiles. Next to their names on the rider profile it should in MY OPINION be generated faces for the riders. Look at this link for an example of a generated face from the FM series. It gives all players a relatively unique face.

Like I said, Being able to put a face to your riders gives them more "life" I guess, and is good for immersion. Without the face they tend to be just a name on a screen... But maybe this is more or less important to some than others.
And as for the names of the generated riders; they do tend to be rather absurd. Or at least they used to a few editions ago, but maybe it has improved since last I played, and that's what my original question was all about

In my last PCM career, my two favourite regens were named "Che Bouckenhouge" (Australian) and "Homobono del Rosario" (Philippines). Homobono is now the name I want my first son to have.

I got someone with the last name of Wirtschaftsberatung, which makes absolutely zero sense. It's translated to Economic Conference or something like that...

Thank you, both of you, for proving my point There should instead be a huge pool of real names (first and last) that the game would pick names from, depending on nation/region.
A French rider should be given typical French names (Gaston, Pierre, Armand or whatever have you)
An Englishman be given realistic English names (John, Steven, Alan, Smith, Johnson, Thompson or whatever have you)
So on so on.
names like you two mentioned are exactly the kind of names I have been referring to, which is always something of a deal-breaker or mood-killer for me.
I'll be sure to keep my eyes open for some iprovements on this in the EP, which Kentaurus mentioned above. |

Allthough tbf del Rosario is an allright name for a Filipino, and maybe Homobono is too, ridiculous as it is. Most regens have normal names, the only problem there really is ethnic minorities. If you put a few Basque names in the French pool because of that, you'll end up with Jean-Pierre Intxausti and stuff like that. Other than that, it's fine, IMO.

Depends on what's defined in the regen.xml. Unfortunately in many versions cyanide took some football names.
And in the Netherlands for instance a lot of surinam/turkish/moroccan decent names are added in the mix.. so you get Ahmed De Vries... or Pieter Özçan or something... |
