Benelux Challenge - Stage 3

Almost 200km today with a couple of KoM points to get. It might not be as hard as the next two stages and also the final is after a descent but it`s surely a first sign of the race favourites. Any cobbler that is losing tons of time today, won`t be able to gain that back tomorrow. Same for any puncheur having a bad day today.
Generali with a 1-2 favourite according to the bookies should be in control today. But we have also seen a strong Strava team so far, who belong to the favourites.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Benelux/mg2015_benelux_03_PCM0150.jpg

5 riders in the break and surprisingly Strava in there as well. So pressure is even higher on other teams now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Stoltz
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/lpu.png Joseph
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/san.png Moreno Hernandez

When the gap goes up to 9min with 140km to go it`s Netia (Der) and Carlsberg (De Maar) working back in the peloton. Einsle in especially is too dangerous as good puncheur.

Also we see lots of crashes early on. KoM leader Chemeaux, Coyot, Fonzi, Last, Clarke to name those.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Benelux/mg2015_benelux_03_PCM0214.jpg

With 25km the gap is under 2min. Stoltz has lost contact after the first hills with slopes of 17% at times, so it`s only 4 remaining.

Meanwhile we had a couple of points. Here a quick overview:

The group is reduced to a bit more than 40 riders only. The biggest favourites are still in the main group but some proper riders lost contact:
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cpl.png Walker
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ice.png Omarsson
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sod.png Gougeard
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Bazhkou
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Selvaggi
for example are in the next group of 69 riders. Only a couple of seconds behind though and might come back.

With In and Out doing some relays now as also De Laval this is not easy.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Benelux/mg2015_benelux_03_PCM0238.jpg

First attack with 16km to go. It`s allrounder pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png De Maar for Carlsberg.
Group Gougeard/Walker already 1'47 behind now. Not looking good for those.
Also in front Mayo and Joseph have lost contact and it`s just Einsle/Moreno. 1'20 ahead of De Maar now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Benelux/mg2015_benelux_03_PCM0245.jpg

De Maar got caught again and also the last two breakaway riders are now caught at the last KoM.
One rider though did attack here. Was it for points or the stage? It`s Italian puncheur pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gen.png Passalacqua, who takes third behind Einsle and Moreno Hernandez resulting in the KoM jersey for Strava as Einsle has collected the most points today.

The Italian is able to get a decent gap here. Some riders like Uchima or De Maar try to respond, but the peloton is too fast now to let them go.

In and Out, De Laval working hard with Indosat also as soon as Uchima stopped his attack. 30s for Passalacqua with 3km to go!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Benelux/mg2015_benelux_03_PCM0251.jpg

In this final and reduced peloton there is simply no chance for a controlled sprint. The riders need to find their position themselves. First to sprint and with 2,5km to go very early is the leader Kruopis.
Just behind Delage, Favilli, De Maar, Kuboki, Sweeting, Langeveld, Kinney, Uchima, Vastaranta.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Benelux/mg2015_benelux_03_PCM0257.jpg

Passalacqua has nothing to respond. Just 1km later Kruopis and Favili as strongest it seems are just behind.
Kuboki and Molard coming next then with a small gap.
Where is Vastaranta? He was expected to be the best sprinter today?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Benelux/mg2015_benelux_03_PCM0261.jpg

Favili takes the lead as Kruopis starts to struggle.
Kuboki also closing the gap from behind now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Benelux/mg2015_benelux_03_PCM0263.jpg

Favili vs Kuboki it is as the Japanese is a bit faster. Not much to go though.
Kruopis still in 3rd but Vastaranta finally coming fast now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Benelux/mg2015_benelux_03_PCM0266.jpg

Indeed on the last meters Kuboki takes it for Actavis. Nice win for him ahead of Favili. Vastaranta passes Kruopis for the last bonus seconds.
And this will also mean, that he is out of the leader jersey. Kuboki goes into the lead now 7s ahead of the Indosat rider. Bad luck for them.

The earlier mentioned riders indeed lost around 3min today and might have lost the GC fight this way.
