Who do you think is the best sprinter in the game-
Note: I probably skipped someone great, I normally do that.
If that happens, vote other and note it in a reply. |

Well aren't that what stats are for...

It would heavily depend upon the DB but my vote goes for the sprinter who I think is best irl.

I think Boonen is the best IF he has his train. |

if Freire is in a good shape he is the best. he can peak really good to one or two races in a season. look at milaan sanremo and the worlds last year. ok, he didnt win the worlds but that was because his team wasn't capable of taking the attacker back. (and freire couldnt follow on the hill, but after all, he's a sprinter) |

As mentioned, it depends entirely on the DB. |

And also on the type of finish and the type of stage which has gone before it

Boonen is a cooble rider that can keep up with the best in sprinting, i belive that his the 6th sprinter, behind Petachi(unbeatable with his train), Bennati, Freire, Hushovd and McEwen and ufnortunatly most of the db's out there put him with the same stats

McEwen..guy dont need a train and also no best condition to sprint well..
But if there is few hills then I go for Petacchi (specialy with train and Freire -if he is in shape)

If this has turned into a "in real life who's the best sprinter" thread, I'll chime in
here are my thoughts:
Into a headwind, Thor Hushovd. He's not as fast, but can keep his effort up for far longer. A bit like Boonen, only more pronounced.
Tailwind, Oscar Freire. The sprint becomes shorter and he only takes 1-2 turns of pedal to reach top-speed. the sprint in Caen 2006 is the perfect example. If you can find the video, his acceleration can't be believed if not watched.
Uphill, 2-5% Oscar Freire (I don't think this needs any explanation)
Uphill over 5% Paolo Bettini (same here)
Well-Organized Sprint, no headwind, Alessando Petacchi. Highest Top Speed, not so much acceleration like McEwen, Loddo, etc. but more a steady progression to the line.
Disorganized Sprint, anyone but Boonen or Petacchi (I won't say McEwen. I think he's past it)
After a tough stage, Oscar Freire. He's usually less tired by the climbs.
Wild-Card: Alberto Loddo. unbelievable speed, horrible positioning
Honourable mention: Daniele Bennati comes a close second on most of these categories

In real life, im going to say McEwen. All right, you can argue about calling him the best, but i find him to be the most interesting to watch with his ability to come out of nowhere.

Please only take road sprinters into account, Theo Bos proabably is the best in pure sprinting, but I'm not sure he would do well if thrown into a mass sprint. |

That, plus the fact that to finish a road race with the peloton, he'd have to train up his endurance. which would lessen his sprinting speed. So there's no telling how fast (or slow) he'd be if he was a road sprinter.
Look at all the talented track sprinters that did nothing on the road. There's quite a few of them. The only track sprinter I can think of that turned into an elite sprinter on the road is Zabel.
Now that I think about it, was Tom Steels ever a track rider? I seem to remember something of the kind (and he was an elite road sprinter at a certain point, so he would qualify)

Isso, Stuey O'Grady started off on the track, and was one of the best sprinters in the world at one point a few years ago.
Cavendish too started on the track, after all, his first break through came on the track in the 2006 Commonwealth Games, where he won the Scratch race.

yeah, but when I said elite, I meant at the very top. as in top 5 or so in the world. I never really thought O'Grady was ever there at any moment in time.
Cavendish has a pretty good chance for the future.

I belive that in his top shape Freire is the best, everytime he prepares for a race during one year to get there with his shape at max he's unbeatable just see the 3 world's he won, and like Isso said he has a lot of Acelaration(spell?), but stil i think that on that point McEwen was better until now but he's probably getting old and losing skils(i sinceraly hope i'm wrong) |

Okay, so a little theoretic's (not a word), what if all of the sprinters were on a totally flat stage, with their team's best lead out train (if they needed it, so yes for Boonen (Steegmans, De Jongh) and Petacchi (Zabel, various), no for McEwen). No wind, everybody with full Green, Blue, and Sprint bars, and the sprint starts at 1.5 Km (Remember this is in the game).
Who would win? |
