Vuelta al Tachira Stage 6
Alakagom
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vatstage6.jpg

First categorized mountain stage but a pretty hard one to judge. Climb, long descent, long climb and long descent. I think anything can happen so hard to predict. All the stage racers are pretty much equal in their descending skills too.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vat6-1.jpg

We are off and it's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/eaf.png Amets Txurruka followed by Colombian champion pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gnu.png Eduard Alexander Beltran on his wheel.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vat6-2.jpg

Few others joined Beltran and Txurruka forming break of the day, whole set includes:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png Paddy Clarke
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/coc.png Egor Silin
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/eaf.png Amets Txurruka
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/scl.png Mirsamad Poorseyedi
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/azt.png Juan Villegas
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gnu.png Eduard Alexander Beltran
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/san.png Julián Rodas

All decent climbers, and with Rodas a Tachira legend! Sancor with rider up front is certainly interesting and will spare them some of their chasing duties possibly. Txurruka came top the 3rd category climb taking 6 points, Beltran 2nd taking 4 points and Villegas last taking 2 points.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vat6-3.jpg

After long and uneventful descent we are back with 36km left and starting the penultimate climb today roughly 10km long. At the front now is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bup.png Buff Polska riding for Magno Nazaret and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mac.png Mobil for José Rujano. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/san.png Sancor with Rodas up front have been fairly relaxed today, certainly smart strategy from them saving as much energy as possible to help Barredo.

With 36km left the gap between peleton and break stands at 2'35".

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vat6-4.jpg

5km to go and first big attack of the race by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/scl.png Emanuele Sella! No one follows immediately. Immediately as well pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/scl.png Poorseyedi is dropping from the break and waiting for Sella to join him!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vat6-5.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png Florentino Marquez responds and is chasing pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/scl.png Sella alone now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vat6-6.jpg

With two big rivals ahead pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mac.png Rujano decides to take control of the situation and is attacking himself. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gnu.png Ardila Cano is trying to follow him, but fails in doing so.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/scl.png Sella now has 20 seconds on Marquez and about 40 seconds on Rujano and the peleton. He's also about to join up with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/scl.png Poorseyedi now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vat6-7.jpg

Meanwhile up front pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gnu.png Beltran is the most pro-active rider attaking at the top of the climb claiming 10 points. trying to follow him are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/eaf.png Txurruka and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/azt.png Villegas. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/san.png Julián Rodas and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/coc.png Egor Silin got dropped and while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png Paddy Clarke looked like he got dropped it seems he is too waiting for his leader, Marquez. Beltran has 1'20" seconds of an advantage with 25km to go over Sella.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vat6-8.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/scl.png Poorseyedi joins up with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/scl.png Sella and is now giving him some needed rest. Great tactics by Siam today. Beside them it's not Marquez, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png Clarke who is slowing down in to get in contact with Marquez who is just behind them.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vat6-9.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mac.png Rujano is closing down pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png Marquez on the descent, and while they can both see pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/scl.png Sella he still holds around 35 seconds over them and now has his teammate to pull on.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vat6-10.jpg

Peleton crosses the climb 50 seconds behind Rujano, containing all the big favourites. They will have to seriously pull furious pace to catch them with the long descend to come. As I said all big favourites present, however..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vat6-11.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/san.png Barredo gets dropped, it was a climb too much however he held on to yellow for two days and tomorrow will wear the King of Mountain jersey, with the aim of winning it.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vat6-12.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mac.png Rujano joins up with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png Marquez now who also has pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png Clarke to help out. It's Rujano doing most of the pulling on a small incline before another descent.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/scl.png Sella sees Rujano closing in the gap and decides to attack leaving pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/scl.png Poorseyedi behind now, but what a great job the Iranian has done.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vat6-13.jpg

Sella really attacked for long and manages to catch pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/eaf.png Txurruka
and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/azt.png Villegas with 10km to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gnu.png Beltran however is out in front with around 30 seconds gap.

Rujano and Marquez are now 50 seconds behind Sella and his group with peleton further 1' minute behind Rujano and Marquez. They are led by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bup.png Buff, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/aeg.png Aegon and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/coc.png Children of Chernobyl Foundation p/b Nemiroff.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vat6-14.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/scl.png Sella pulled on for the last remaining kilometres really hard and closed the gap to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gnu.png Beltran to less than 15 seconds! Beltran has 500metres to go and can see the line, can he held them off?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vat6-16.jpg

Yes he can! Just! What a win for Colombian, he's been sensational last year and started the year similar. He will pull on the leader's jersey tomorrow!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vat6-15.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/eaf.png Txurruka pips pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/azt.png Villegas for second. Both will be very happy since they really gained a lot in GC by today's move. Sella's late effort also meant they are classified in the same time.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/scl.png Sella was really spent after his effort in last 20km especially, finishing on 4th but what a gap he opened, he will be looking confident ahead of next stages. Marquez and Rujano are just approaching the flamme rouge.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vat6-17.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png Marquez 5th with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mac.png Rujano on 6th. They were close to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/scl.png Sella at one point but he really was the strongest today. So how much did they loose to him at the end today?

1'12" is the gap between Sella and Rujano & Marquez. Big gap, however with tough stages ahead that can be easily made back. All to fight for!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tachira/vat6-18.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gnu.png Ardila Cano wins the sprint from the bunch containing all the big favoruites. They come in at 2'19" down. There are some big losers here, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bup.png Nazaret being the biggest one hoping, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/coc.png Krasnoperov possibly too. All the others were always going be a bit behind the big trio, however now they are also 2 minutes behind riders like pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gnu.png Beltran or pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/eaf.png Txurruka so not a good day for them as well.
