More of the same on stage 2, slightly longer stage but pan flat as stage 1. Bunch sprint expected. After yesterday Bouhanni sits in the leader's jersey with and Avelino Keukeleire looking likest to challenge the Frenchman.
Jesús Herrada is the first rider to attack beginning stage 2 in Venezuela!
However the first attempts were not let go and it took another few tries to create the break of the day, which includes a rider familiar from yesterday from Chiquita yet again on attack. The new CT team of Sancor with rider present today, it will be a tough race for the new boys, but they are already showing off their new team colours!
Bjorn Selander
Stef Clement
Adel Barbari
Gabriel Juarez
Similar to yesterday its BPost Prio & Euskaltel leading the peleton.
It was quite uneventful, the break did not contest the intermediate sprints and was quickly swallowed bar Clement who gave it one last go but with 20km left can see the peleton quickly coming from behind.
Coming to 5km left and its Eusktaltel and Bpost forming trains riding alongside each other and similar to yesterday Prio in total mess. 3 riders up front, 1 in the middle and Avelino can be caught at the bottom of the picture...it seems they train need bit more practice..
Few hundred metres later and Reza exploits a gap that appears and powers to the front creating small gap once again between them and the rest. Krieger sits on Bouhanni'swheel preety with Avila trying to close.
Zingle once again needs to try and close the gap meanwhile Caldeira and Coutinho are trying to salvage the situation for Avelino.
Behind them Drapac and Kip are trying to come through.
Miracously Kip manages to catch on Eusktaltel train in next metres but Reza is really powering now leaving Bpost and Prio quite behind!
Situation looks like this:
Reza Anton Martin Bouhanni Krieger Avila Kip Zingle Caldeira De Vreese Coutinho Keukeleire Avelino Rizza Drapac Ventoso Polivoda
1.5km to go and Coutinho produces a splendid move, cutting to the left and finding gap bringing Avelino almost to the front. Anton Martin takes over now from Reza who once again did great job!
Coutinho clever move also cut off Keukeleire from reaching Bouhanni blocking him quite a bit now.
Flamme rouge!
As Anton Martin is almost done a surprise move! Krieger is first out of blocks surprising Bouhanni who didn't start his acceleration yet!
Meanwhile Coutinho done splendid job and Avelino is now right on Bouhanni's wheel! Behind them it's Avila, Drapac, Ventoso and Kip looking most likely to challenge them at the minute.
Krieger leading but now Avelino gets clear line and is now fast pulling him back! Bouhanni doesn't seem to have the legs today being unable to accelerate well.
Meanwhile behind Keukeleire finds clear air is now coming back! But is it too late?
This is very closeeeeee but Krieger has got it! Just! Avelino needed 20metres more and he would have overtaken the young German. Bouhanni lacked acceleration to come close to the duo but still gets third place, another good stage and he defends his leader's jersey, fantastic leadout agian by Reza and Anton.
Keukeleire at the end fastest out of anyone but it was all too late, can Bpost get it right tomorrow? Avila tops offs to the top 5, solid placement for the Colombian.
There was no celebration yesterday but today Krieger explodes in joy!
