Tour of Qatar - Stage 6

A 3.5 KM epilogue it is to round out the Tour of Qatar. We can't expect massive differences over such a short difference, that being said there is a world of difference between the specialists here and those who can't ride too well against the clock. Can the specialists infringe on the GC? If so, how far up can they get?

There is one time that stood out from the rest throughout the first half of the epilogue coverage. The time was 4'19 and set by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Li, who fell on stage 2, showing pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Oz Cycling Project were still fighting here.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Li's time would hold true and still be the time to beat with less than 90 riders to finish. His time was '6 faster than pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Goddaert & pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pro.png Navardauskas and '10 faster than pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mus.png Fraile (above) who were amongst the closest challengers for a while.

After pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pro.png Posthuma is another to finish @ '6, we see Irish champ, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pnd.png Downey, finish @ '3. The closest challenger yet!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Li's time is still good as we enter the final 78 riders to start, all are under 2'00 in GC, everyone to finish from now could not only be in for a good stage result but also a good GC place.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bac.png Yatsevich goes quickest with a time of 4'19, hundredths of a second faster than the Oz rider. This time would put him in contention for a decent GC place and perhaps the white jersey.

But the rebuttal from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Oz Cycling Project is almost instant. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Ford goes fastest, again with a time of 4'19, to provisionally lead the stage.

French champ pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Coppel puts seconds into everyone else with a time of 4'16. With only pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Cancellara, of those to finish, looking likely to challenge would the French champ's time hold up?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Cancellara disappoints, finishes at 17th on the day, with a time of 4'22. That time pretty much summing up pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Red Bull's tour.

That would mean pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Coppel's stellar time would take the victory here! But, how far would it push him up the GC?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vwa.png Zabel would plummet down the GC and lose the white jersey. With plenty of riders moving up, plenty would move down in the GC. Some a long ways! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bac.png Yatsevich would take the white jersey, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vwa.png Zabel falling over 40 places in the GC.

With the stage decided all eyes were on the stars of this Tour of Qatar: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Bewley and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vsa.png Swift.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Bewley puts '2 into pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vsa.png Swift but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vsa.png Swift wins the Tour of Qatar. As expected there wasn't a world of difference between the two. Both are very worthy of finishing 1st and 2nd with two wins apiece. No one should begrudge pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vsa.png Swift the win, and points jersey win, after he finished all road stages inside the top 4.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pok.png Degenkolb's buffer enabled him to hold his 3rd spot in GC with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ayu.png Vanderbiest holding fourth place, showing he is a great sprinter for a stage race once again after Taihu lake, bringing in vital points for his team.

His super epilogue really did vault him up the rankings and surely more than makes up for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Tzortzakis.
