The crucial turn in the road.


We may have had to wait for the final 25 KM of road racing here in Qatar, but, with the winds high, the race finally gets blown to pieces!

With 10 KM to go groups 2 and 3 merge. The 17 man lead group has '53 on this new 70 man group. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ven.png Venchi and, soon, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/qst.png Quickstep are really giving everything to close down the lead group.

The 70 man group has almost made it, thanks to the slow down, to the lead group deep into the final 5 KM. The egos in group 1 have really divided the group!

Rather than wait for the sprint pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pok.png Degenkolb goes for a long one with 2 KM to go. Catching the others off guard. He attacks just as the second group reaches the tail-end of the 17 man group. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vsa.png Swift is the first to chase.

An eventful day in Qatar is rounded out with a Pokerstars win. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Bewley beats pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vsa.png Swift to second place and reduces the gap to the race lead to 9 seconds ahead of the final stage.

The battle for sixth place.


... no time gaps between the favourites. Despite that 17 man group having that '53 lead with 10 KM to go and some visible gaps on the road the first 82 riders are all given the same time. With just '39 seconds separating 5th from 78th in GC there is scope for plenty of movement on the final stage.
