You are thinking way way way too big.
4 million sales for PCM14 would put it on level with sales of PS3 discs for FIFA15. 3 million would put it on level with disc sales for Super Smash Bros Wii U. Even 1 million would put it on level with just Xbox One disc sales for NBA 2k15.
Think more in tens or hundreds of thousands. I would love to know the actual answer but such numbers are notouriously hard or just plain impossible to get hold of.

it will always be a Wild Guess. But there are 108 000 members here sine 2006? Its always more none members in here so maybe it has been 2-300000 non members in the forum. Some off those have offcourse become members.
If thats together 50% of those who have baught the game its 400000. Then we have together 800000. If we then say its sold 800` to one million copies off the game in 10 years that would be 100000 each year.
Wild Guess but maybe not so far from true.

You can't simply calculate like that...atm, there are 13 members and 25 non-members in here. But what if these are the only non-members? Also, I think that at least 30000 people in this forum don't play pcm anymore. They logged in to download a db. Not more.
I think around 80k play this game seriously. And maybe 1k plays it because they want to hate about it. F.e. when you look at some steam reviews. There were guys who said that they hate the game because cycling is shit. But to make a review of a game you need to buy it first.

No way Paul, there's a huge amount of gamers that will never look at a PCM forum or anything, and just play the game(with fake names as well unless they found the Cyanide editor  ). More than half if you ask me.
My own rough guess would be 300 000 that played or have played the latest game. Not based on anything(only roughly on the fact that a few years ago, I read their budget for both games was 15m), just my guess.

It's hard to tell. Looking at how other Focus Home Interactive games sell, 300.000 would make PCM14 it's 5th biggest single game ever, based on the data i can find. 300.000 isn't an outrageous guess for total units sold but an active player base (something like more than 10hours) is probably less than 100,000. I mean you can see that less than 20,000 people downloaded the 2014 Expansion Pack v1. Saying that 1/5th of players finding and downloading a custom DB seems reasonable to me based what i know from other sports games, so that would put PCM around the 100.000 mark.
Now Tour de France 2011 i found some figures for! On the Xbox360 TDF2011 sold roughly 50,000 units. Tour de France 2014 on the PS4 sold roughly 10,000 units.
For clarrification the accuracy of those numbers isn't the best. For starters i can't trace the source too well, and it doesn't include digital-only sales. Information is just very very limited for these relatively niche games.
Seriously, PCM is not a big game. Cycling is popular but think of the average demographic for cyclists, the crossover with gamers is a very small percentage. I know i watched cycling for years before i stumbled across PCM by accident because the concept of a cycling game didn't make sense to me at that time. A Cycling management game is niche and it's kinda cool we get a yearly installment from a company and publisher that make some decently big games.

I cant decide what you think. Neither can you, what im thinking. But there are 43000 likes for pcm on facebook. If u use the likes button u have played the game. But we know that not all use that button. Im one off them and i like the game.
I said it was a Wild Guess, but try to calculate without sience is a way to maybe Guess the number. In Us 13% off all games are sport games. Its not lower in Europe maybe higher. Cycling games isnt big, if so many other develpoers would follow. But its not that small that cyanide loose Money on it. If it had been much lower than 100000 they might not continue selling it. So its not that big so they got competion and not so small that they stop making them. If we also see the likes on facebook and the Activity on net. My Guess might not be bad at all. But im not saying as a fact, just my opinion.

Owning a game is not the same as playing it frequently.
Most people here will by the PCM game every year but only play the latest game.
And then there are the one-time buyers who see the adds in the TV or on the TdF homepage but never play a career. |
