[Crits] Bay Cycling Classic - Rd 3
tsmoha
After two flat crits, it's now time for the annual hilly parcours through Portarlington. Opposing to last year, there won't be an uphill finish, but the steep climb should still see only the best challenging for the win.

Yesterday, the peloton failed to catch the break, but puncheurs like Haas (Risa, winner in Portarlington last year), Bibby (GBR), Jiao (China), Bennett (NZL) or Hatanaka (Japan) will surely aim for just one today: line honours.

A breakaway group of 7 riders is quickly found and we have a few interesting sprinters in here:

Cam Meyer, Sam Bennett and Chris Sutton as those, who will try to steal some points in the most challenging round!

Jones (Oz), Delgerbayar (Fox), Tsubaki (JPN) and Sandakelum (Ayubowan) as their company..

As soon as the first favorites would launch their first moves, this breakaway group would struggle to maintain their lead though.

12km to go and it's all back together, with those mentioned bigger names still trying to open up a gap on the bunch. Uchima as next in line trying, followed by a group with Haas, Hatanaka and Bibby/Edmondson!

That moves indeed cause a split at the front, where 9 riders managed to go clear from the bunch! Edmondson launched another attack in the meantime, going solo on the final lap and climb now!

40" down there's a group with 7 riders - including Haas and Bibby..

Edmondson entering the last descend with still a notable gap, while Haas attacks the chasing group, followed by Hatanaka/Uchima!

Also Bibby and Walker try to hang on, while other riders like Lloyd, Ji and George Bennett are just a few seconds behind.

They are all going too late though, as Josh Edmondson held on to a comfortable gap to take out the Portarlington criterium in style! An impressive effort in those final lap.

29" later, last year's winner on this circuit crosses the line as 2nd: Haas beating a strong Uchima, who completes the podium.

Bibby, who wasn't interested too chase (obviously), 4th ahead of Walker and Lloyd. So a quite impressive result for the British National Team. Hatanaka, Ji and Bennett chanceless in this sprint.

Docker collects the last point in the sprint from the peloton, taking the overall lead that way!
