We're staying in Geelong for a rather tricky flat criterium through Eastern Park. A slightly ascending sector about 2km before finish will be quite challenging.

GC leading Bennett will aim for more points nevertheless, while better "climbers" like Docker, Von Hoff or an so far invisible Ewan may be the better bets for line honours this time..

It didn't took too long for a breakaway group being allowed to stay clear, leading by 1'30" with half of the stage remaining:

Sisira (Ayubowan!), Downey (Ireland), Van der Ploeg (Chain) and Hepburn (Pat's Veg).. the first Sri Lankian rider/team making an impression in this second round!

13km to go and it's pretty obvious that the peloton will struggle today! Still a minutes-gap for the early break, while more riders now go clear from the bunch trying to bridge across the leading group:

Zhang (China), Speirs (Ireland) are followed by Yates (GBR) and Tanner (Risa)..

They did not catch up to the breakaway and also Earle (Chain Reaction) couldn't join this group with another attempt out of the bunch! The peloton would chase hard, but on the final climb it looks like the escaping group will take line honours:

Downey trying to solo away, now followed by Sisira! Hepburn as the next escapee trying to hang on..

Inside the final km, Sisira goes past Downey! The sprinting bunch (lead by Sutton/Matthews) not too far behind, though probably facing a too large gap to go for the stage victory.

Will Sri Lanka's Sisira deliver big time?

Oh, yes, he will! Sisira kinda easily holds off a suffering Downey, who has to settle for a third place behind Hepburn eventually. What a way to introduce Sri Lanka into the Bay Classic! Well done.

One man's win is another man's loss. In this case, there are quite a few names missing out on valuable points: Matthews sprints for today's 5th place behind Van der Ploeg, holding off Docker, Drapac, Meyer and Von Hoff comfortably. Still a fail by the bunch, which apparently allowed a too comfortable gap for the early break in the first half of the race.
