After Meiji's strongest season yet in the PCT, Meiji will now be moving up to the highest division in cycling, the Pro Tour. Meiji missed the automatic promotion spots last year however the strong showing in the division did not go unnoticed as the President of the MGUCI decided to promote the team anyway. For Meiji this will be a great opportunity as the goal of the team has always been to promote and develop cycling in Japan and being in the worlds highest cycling division will give the team lots of exposure.
New to the team is JR - East a large corporation based in Japan. They run the public railways in the greater Tokyo area and are one of Japans highest grossing companies. Thanks to our partnership with Suica (the most popular form of payment for the JR rail lines) we were able to form a partnership with JR - East and we think it will be beneficial for both parties.

Meiji Announce Goals for New Season
• Avoid Relegation
• Giro d'Italia: Top 10
•  Tour de France: Points Jersey
• Badaling International: Win
• Giro di Lombardia: Top 3
In our first PT season, we decided to play it fairly safe with our goals. Even then we think some of these goals may be difficult to attain, however it is very important for the team that we achieve the first on the list, avoiding relegation. We want to stay in the PT for years to come and do not want to head right back down to PCT. Our next goal is also very important to us. We want to be on the podium at the Tour de France somehow and we feel the most realistic chance of that happening for us is by targeting the Points jersey.
Probably our most important single race day of the year has to be the Badaling Intl though. We want to win this classic as its the highest ranking Asian race on the cycling calendar. And finally one of the biggest classics of the year, the Giro di Lombardia which we would like to finish on the podium.
As long as we can acquire some of our transfer season targets we feel these goals should be achievable, and we will most importantly become a strong PT team for the foreseeable future.

I hope that TdF goal means I won't have to deal with Lo Cicero this season

Yeah, I decided to try and play it a bit safe, but even doing that it feels like some of these goals will be hard to accomplish because PT is just a much stronger division. I hope I am not in a relegation fight as well!

Renewals went fairly well for the team. There are a couple riders that we feel we could have been a bit harder on in negotiations but for the most part we have lowered the wages of riders that deserved it, and riders who have performed well for us have been given deserving raises.
3 Riders have been released. We would like to thank, Sergei Lagutin, Junpei Murakami and Hossein Nateghi for their time with the team. The decision to let them move on was simply because we dont feel they will ride at the quality we need them to at the PT level and we dont see them improving to potentially ride at that level either.

Meiji Release Plans going into Transfer Season
In the upcoming weeks the squad may see some changes, and Meiji have decided to hint at what may happen to its riders as the window grows closer and closer. While in some cases a rider being unavailable does not necessarily mean we wont listen to offers, in other cases it does. Likewise even if we will listen to offers, does not mean we are looking to get rid of certain riders.

It could be interesting to see if the Efimkins can be brought together in one team. We're not particulary looking to improve on the hills, but if the oppurtunity arises we may contact you I guess.

We've had a chat with Kwok today and he says that these rumours are false. We will have to get in touch with the Asian media to see what is up, and who is spreading these false rumours

Hasta could be an interesting rider to us, however Paajanen is not of much interest to us.

It would definitely be nice to see the two brothers ride together in the twilight of their careers.

Il Piccolo Principe Joins Meiji
We are very pleased to announce our first signing of the transfer window, Damiano Cunego. Cunego joins from free agency at a wage of 975,000. It is definitely a steep price, but we think he has one more year in him to score a lot of points. He has a very unique skillset in that he is quite good at both Mountains and Hills compared to most other climbers.
The hope with him is that he can ride the Giro d'Italia and achieve the teams goal of a Top 10, although he may be capable of even more than that. He will be relied on during the season to score quite a few points for the team as the highest paid rider on the books.
Cunego gives the team a top climber to lead the team, as we didn't have any that can compete at the PT level, for Top 10s. You can also expect to see Cunego ride the Giro di Lombardia, but the rest of his schedule has yet to be decided.

I was 100% sure that cunego is your target you have spoken about, your love for ageing italians is well known.
Good luck with him ,as you say, he should have one more great year ahead and Giro top5 could be the aim. Top 10 goal should be easy, if he stays on the bike.
