Despite the disastrous last season, Compal have decided to continue their project to mantain and develop Asian cycling. In order to do that successfully, the board have decided to progress gradually and take small steps at a time. In other words, we will try to have a higher emphasize toward talents in the future. We understand this will take time and patience for our supporters, but in the same time we will like to keep as many as we can of the riders from the 2014-season, build upon those riders, and then add a few exciting talents every season that will gradually take the step to be professionals.
We believe this is the best way for us to approach this new beginning in the CT-division, both economically, but also to make sure that the upcoming Asian riders will be in the best hands.
This years exciting news is that we'll also have KazakhGold on our team and they will make sure to protect our interests in Central-Asia.
Welcome to Taipei, welcome to the future of Asian cycling!

Compal-Merida to look outside Asia
As the transfer seasons quickly approaches, the Compal-Merida management have been looking for potential riders they would be interressted to sign. However, competition in the Asian market is tough and the talent pool is slim. We will await and see if there will be some new Asian names available, but if not, we're ready to go elsewhere.
We still want our chore to be Regional, but we have seen the last couple of seasons that we can't compete with the rest of the world. That's why we're loosing up a little bit. Even our biggest role models over in Meiji have to make use of Europeans in order to complement the already good Japanese riders, and now they're ProTour.
But we won't sign riders just for the case of signing them. They have to strengthen the squad in areas we're currently weak in. Especially if not from our focus areas.
It will be exciting to see how Compal will look in front of the next season. |

You might need to get rid of some riders first before you even think of signing europeans you have 18 likely to stay with a squad limit of 16
Though I think with the squad you have already you should be Favorite to promote looking at it now it's much better then last years and could dominate at this level. |

CT squad size limit is 15 minimum, 20 max (or was 2014 season), but I agree that keeping hold of the 18 riders Bjarnte identifies may well be difficult both from a wages and squad balance perspective. Will be an interesting story to follow!

Ahh my bad thought it was 16 limit but still a lot of guys to keep hold of though. |

Obviously we've had to do a number of changes to the original list of riders after the announcement, and the final version is now published.
Some are easy to let go, others, especially those from East Asia, we really want to hold on to, but in the same time, we would like to reach PCT as soon as possible and with the squad limit in force, we definitely need to offload some of the weakest riders, even if it's with a really heavy heart.
@jt1109: Thanks. I think we will do alright with this squad, but in the same time, we have no real leaders. Even if we promote with this squad, we will still be weak in PCT, so we need to re-structure the squad for the future. We will search the transfer market to see if we can find affordable options.
@Scorchio: I agree it was way too ambitious to keep all of them. Should look more realistic now, but changes may, and probably will, happen

Good luck with renewals then, as the current wages would put you 429k above the salary cap and I count only 13 riders
(obviously I'm aware Choi will be fine with a much lower wage)

I was aware we we're over the cap, but not by half a million. This is going to be interesting...
Spoiler Waiting for Valverde to drop by and offer to take Choi as a helping hand

Compal-Merida board gives ultimatum to Bjartne
The transfer window is approaching and is getting closer day by day, but in Taipei, Compal's board are still dwelling about last season. A massive under performance and rock bottom at the PCT-standings made many people in the cycling world wonder if this project was sustainable at all.
After some discussion, and some good convincing from Bjartne, Compal decided to continue for another season in the CT-division, but made sure there was a major clause in the contract.
- Should Compal-Merida fail to promote to the PCT-division after the upcoming season, we will immediate pull out from the project. On the other hand; if we DO go up, either by claiming a promotion spot or gaining a "promotion invite by UCI", the sponsor contract automatically renews for the next season as well.
The race goals for the upcoming season are confirmed, but yet to be revealed. Anyway it seems like promoting to PCT will be the ultimate goal for Compal in 2015.

We will as before have a clear racing focus on Asia, but this year we're going all in on the tours! I feel we have some good climbers and puncheurs in the team already, and if we manage to keep hold on those strong riders from last season throughout the renewals and maybe supplement with some other riders, I believe these goal to be manageable for us.
We also aim to end minimum 5th on the table in order to quickly gain promotion back up to the PCT. |

Really like your goals, and the Asian focus of them all. Best of luck and I have a feeling we will talk during the transfer season

Contract Renewals
Our pre-transfer squad for the 2015 season are now announced. Although we are happy with the outcome and very satisfied to secure a renewal of our wonderboy Choi, it is sad to see locals disappear. We wished to keep them and would indeed if we still were in PCT, but at this stage we didn't have the salary to keep every rider we wanted. We will thank all these riders for their contributions in the past and hopefully we will see some of them back at the team at a later occasion. But for now, good luck in your future career.
Here are the 14 riders we are glad having secured a contract with:
Renewed | Ricki Nelson | €150,000 | Meiyin Wang | €89,000 | Ki Ho Choi | €230,000 | Abolfazl Gilanipoor | €75,000 | Behnam Khalilikhosrosham | €50,000 | Alexandr Dyachenko | €50,000 | Andrey Zeits | €175,000 | Chu Thien Sinelobov | €50,000 | Sung Baek Park | €50,000 | Ahmad Haidar Anuawar | €50,000 | Anuar Manan | €50,000 | Mohammed Saufi Mat Senan | €75,000 | Yin Chi Wang | €75,000 | Yousef Mirza Banihammad | €60,000 |
