Team Kenya Airways
Welcome to the HQ of Team Kenya Airways for the 2015 season, a Pro Continental team in the Man-Game peloton. Since its inception in 2013 the team has enjoyed some success, moving up into the second tier of cycling and helping grow African cycling along the way.
The goal this year is to continue developing the sport in Africa and Kenya while also focusing on battling towards the top end of the division after a relegation battle in 2014. The development of many of our riders as well as the arrival of a few new faces are what we hope will contribute to this progression.

As mentioned previously, Kenya Airways remain our main sponsor for the third consecutive season. A leader in the African aviation industry, we have had a great partnership and with their backing we have grown Kenyan cycling to a point where it has raced at the world championships. We hope to continue this good work while giving them publicity through the team.
We also have several minor sponsors on board for this season who will provide the team with financial backing or equipment for the coming season. We are happy to have all of these companies on board and hope to give them the coverage they want in return for their support.

Spoiler
Our first win of the season came at stage 4 of the Tour of South Africa - marquee signing Ben Nasser sprinting to victory, putting him into the GC lead.
He then held on to take the race overall, our first ever stage-race win. He also managed to grab the points jersey, making it a great race for us.
The Tunisian also finished 2nd at Strade Bianche, jumping away from the field in Siena to secure a podium finish.
At our home race, the Kenya Mountain Classic, home favourite Mwangi Samwel climbed to 7th place against what was a stacked field.
In the race that gave us a huge C1 podium in 2013, a year later the Tropicale Amissa Bongo was also great for us. On stage 5 Suleiman Kangangi took his second stage of this race in two years...
...while Hervé Raoul Mba took stage 6 to give make it 4 stage wins in 2 years for us at the race in Gabon.
The only major result from our three non-African riders came at Race Horizon Park, where Enrico Gasparotto sprinted to third place in Kiev.
We rode our first ever GT this year, fielding an all-African line up in the Giro d'Italia. Ben Nasser was once again our standout rider, spending time in the king of the mountains jersey and finishing 2nd on two different occasions.
At GP Onda-Boavista, Ben Nasser was edged out of a win by Chris Froome in the final few metres, on his way to finishing a very creditable 2nd.
Our final win of the season came at the Int. Osterreich Rundfahrt, with a breakaway win coming from Kenyan Simon Kimeli on the mountainous stage 4.

After being approved by the MGUCI, we are happy to announce our goals for the forthcoming 2015 season. After a successful season goals-wise in 2014 where we managed 3/5 goals, this year we have taken more ambitious goals with all of them being HC. However, we believe these goals are also very achievable despite the increase in difficulty.
All four racing goals, including a flexible one, involve hilly terrain which may give a few hints towards what we'll mainly be focusing on this year. Already established team leader Hassen Ben Nasser is the rider we have identified to achieve these, as an already very capable rider on the hills.
After finishing 2nd last year at Strade Bianche, we decided to try and go one better this time and put it as one of our two win goals. Being an African HC race, we also decided to include Nelspruit Classic as a top 5 goal this year. Manx International is another top 5 goal which we think we can do well at again after a good result last season. Finally, the last goal is a flexible win goal which will be decided after transfers between the easier Clasica San Sebastian and tougher Tour of Czech Republic.
Our standings goal this year would have once again been to win the Africa tour after coming so close last season, but that option was removed so we decided to instead go for a top 10 in the overall rankings. This will be tough, even more so after being in a relegation fight last season but we think it is achievable.

Kenya Airways Chase Kwiatkowski?
Rumours have emerged that Michal Kwiatkowski has been identified as a surprise target for Kenyan PCT squad Team Kenya Airways. The Pole, recently released into the free agent market after his previous squad Team B&O folded, is reportedly subject to plenty of interest from potential suitors and Kenya Airways would face stiff competition for Kwiatkowski should these rumours be correct.
With the team's stage race leader Mwangi Samwel having a poor 2014 season in terms of results, the team are reportedly looking for a more reliable leader for these races so the Kenyan champion can ride in a more free role for the team in the future. Kwiatkowski is a rider that they believe can fill that role, with good ability on both mountains and hills.
Team manager Froome Dog said this in response to the rumours: "I refuse to comment on specific riders, but we are keeping our options open in terms of riders for next season. Strengthening the stage-racing and sprinting elements of our squad are clear priorities ahead of the coming transfer season. To help us achieve our goal of moving up the PCT standings we could have to look further afield for these parts of our squad than just Africa, despite the team remaining focused on developing African cycling." |

Nice new jersey you've got there with a nice representation of the Kenyan colours.
I'm looking to build a strong mountains squad, so naturally guys like Samwel and Ndbri are of interest. They're not my top priority, but they'll definitely be on my radar for next season. You may have to free up some space if you'd like to get Impey. Kwiatkowski is certainly an interesting candidate, but will fit quite well into Kenya Airways. I'm just not sure how the PCM AI would react if Samwel and Kwiatkowski were together in a race.

Thanks about the jersey, your jerseys aren't bad either! I guess I could have asked someone else who would have done a better job than me but I think it's decent enough.
I think it's very likely both of our top Kenyans will say, but I'd never say never. Samwel frustrated us a lot last year with his lack of results so I'd be foolish not to listen to any offers. As stated before though, it would take a very good offer for us to consider letting either him or Ndbri go.
Kwiatkowski is one of a few options we have, but he's one of my favourite riders IRL and his stats seemed perfect for some of the races I'd like to target this year. I'm not sure he'd be riding on the same team as Samwel if he did sign for us, I meant more that Samwel could be left to target C1 races and races that suit him better than last season.

With HC bands being announced by the MGUCI, we can now present our HC bands. As with all other teams, we got our first choices of bands and therefore we get to ride all the HC races we wanted to, including all five of our goal races.
A few good facts regarding our bands - we were the only team to choose the combination of bands 1,4,5 and 6. We feature in the three most popular bands, as well as the least popular. We will also race all African HC races, a major reason we picked the bands we did.

Rider Wages Announced; 7 riders leave
So with renewals now over and transfers very close, we can announce our which riders have renewed with us, and their wages for the forthcoming season.
Renewals is no easy task anymore with changes made by the MGUCI which made many riders harder to negotiate with. There was also a possibility of riders being insulted and then only accepting an extortionate wage, which unfortunately happened with no less than 2 of our major riders! Of those one was released, and one has become a very rich man...
Apart from those two riders, renewals went reasonably well for us with many riders accepting our round 1 offers. Without further ado, here are our rider's wages for the 2015 season:
| Rider | Wage | Best Stats | Availability | | Merhawi Kudus | € 389.000 | 75 Mo | No | | Hassen Ben Nasser | € 350.000 | 79 Hi | No | | Mwangi Samwel | € 200.000 | 79 Mo | No | | Simon Kimeli | € 58.000 | 74 Mo | No | | Redouane Chaabane | € 50.000 | 73 Hi | No | | Tsgabu Grmay | € 50.000 | 75 Mo, 73 Hi | PT Loan | | Mujtaba Hussein | € 50.000 | 75 TT | PT Loan | | Hillary Kiprotich | € 50.000 | 73 Hi | PT Loan | | Zakayo Ndbri | € 50.000 | 76 Mo | Possible | | Daniel Njoroge | € 50.000 | 72 Mo | No | | Tarik Chaoufi | € 50.000 | 75 Hi | No | | Lotto Petrus | € 50.000 | 74 Hi | No | | Bonaventure Uwizeyimana | € 50.000 | 69 Mo | No | | Johann van Zyl | € 50.000 | 71 Hi, 71 Cob | Possible |
14 riders renewed with the team in total, leaving us with around € 1.000.000 in cap space for transfers. We had hoped for a little more than that, but with Kudus getting a lot more than we imagined our transfer plans have had to be adjusted slightly.
The 'no' in the availability column means these riders will probably kept, and therefore we will not be actively looking to sell them. However, if you have an interesting offer we will happily consider it.
The only riders we will be actively looking let go in transfers are three riders, who will be looking for PT loans to aid their development. All 3 are good enough to be great domestiques in the PT, so we hope their is some interest for them.
Released | Enrico Gasparotto | Fabian Wegmann | Samwel Ekiru | Suleiman Kangangi | Hervé Raoul Mba | Riadh Ghdamsi | Salfo Bikienga |
Seven riders were therefore released from the team. As you can probably guess, it was Gasparotto and Kudus who were unimpressed with our first round offers. We don't think our offers were too unreasonable, but unfortunately the riders disagreed. Losing our top talent Merhawi was not an option, so he will stay as the team's highest paid rider. Gasparotto on the other hand was released to the free agency after just 1 year with the team.
We wish all those leaving the team well, especially riders such as Ghdamsi and Kangangi who have been great servants to the team over the past couple of years. We hope some of the new CT teams pick up some of these riders. National champions Ghdamsi and Mba would be great options for teams looking for domestiques in colourful jerseys.

Ah damn, that sucks.
Gasparotto somehow started off at a ridiculous wage before I even got him myself, seems like he got used to being so greedy too much
I'm really curious what the offer was that Kudus declined, but I'm not sure that's allowed to be made public...

Yeah, it didn't go well
I'm interested to see how you handled Herklotz after my failure with Kudus...
I'm happy to reveal the offer if it's allowed, although I have doubts over whether SN wants these things revealed. |

Cool, I look forward to being in touch at transfers. We've had some good deals in the past, especially in our first year where you loaned us Ghafari and Khalilik... so let's hope we can continue that |

Kwiatkowski signs for Kenya Airways
Michał Kwiatkowski | Wage: € 300,000 | 77 Mo, 78 Hill, 70 TT |
We are delighted to announce our first signing for the 2015 season. One of our biggest targets pre-transfers, the signature Michał Kwiatkowski has now been confirmed, with the wage being 300,000 euros. We are especially happy with this, as we expected him to be a lot harder to sign than he actually was.
The Pole is strong on both the mountains and hills, while also carrying plenty of great backup stats which meant he was an ideal rider for us to lead us in stage races. His all-round ability is what makes him stand out, and will hopefully be what leads to his success this season.
After being released by the folding Team B&O at the end of last season, Michał is happy to have joined us and is looking forward to beginning training with us ahead of the season. He is especially pleased with the support he will have while riding for us.
There are also reports that more riders will be joining the team imminently. We will update you on those when we can. |

Bassirou Konte | Wage: € 50,000 | 74 Hill, 76 Fighter |
Bassirou was released from fellow African squad Eritel - Sonatrach at the end of last season, and we swiftly moved for him when we could. A great signing for minimum wage, we hope he will be a solid domestique on the hills. He also has a high fighter stat, so expect to see him up the road whenever he can.
Clovis Kamzong | Wage: € 50,000 | 73 Mo, 72 Hill |
Another African domestique signed for minimum wage is Clovis. He comes in to give us another option for races with mountains, and will hope to support the likes of Samwel and Kwiatek well. He can also go well on hilly terrain so could well ride a few hilly races also.
Estifanos Kebede | Wage: € 50,000 | 74 Mo, 74 Hill |
Perhaps the most impressive signing of this batch, Estifanos is very strong on both mountains and hills. He also has the capacity to improve and develop into an even better rider in the future. Therefore, there is a strong chance he will spend 2015 out on loan in the PT. Nevertheless, another strong rider for minimum wage.
Stéphane Rossetto | Wage: € 50,000 | 73 Hill, 72 TT, 71 Mo |
The final rider to come in today, Stéphane is also non-African. He comes in to provide support in hilly races and also give us help in TTT's that we come across this year. Generally a great all-round rider for the team, once again on minimum wage. |

Gratz FroomeDog. Given the popularity of Kwiatek I'd imagine a bitter fight about him but you did it in an confident way.
