With only 7 riders you could fear a boring day but in fact those seven are very evenly matched and none of them usually excel in ITT’s so anything can happen really.
Niyonshitu blasts by the mid-stage intermediate in best time. Could be due to him being the first rider on the course…
Especially seeing these intermediates at the first time-check
Jaguar is looking dominant taking the entire podium at the 2nd time check. Now with Hadi in the lead after Biziyaremye seemingly started too hard and have lost a lot of speed.
The only one who could perhaps threaten the Jaguar dominance looked like Uwizeimana, but he keeps on losing time while the Jaguar-trio is really pushing each other.
To no great surprise Hategeka crosses the line as best Project: Africa rider, but to no avail as Bintunimana holds best time one second faster than his team mate Hadi.
Uwizeimana pushes Hategeka off the podium with 23 seconds margin.
Biziyaremye had a strong final part of the race as well but is still 5 seconds slower than Bintunimana. Still a 1-2-3 should please the manager for now…
Nevertheless having all riders within 1’11 witnesses a closer race than the podium makes it appear.
The Rwandan Road race takes part on a 59,4 km long hilly circuit finishing uphill.
Should things come to a sprint among all seven it would most likely be between Hategeka, Niyonshitu and Biziaremye.
So Hadi attacks right at the start of the race.
On the first climb of the hill he is joined by Ndayisenga.
As could be expected no one seems willing to chase and the duo quickly gets a massive lead.
50 km and 6’41
40 km and 9’26
30 km and 14’01
It will be between those two for sure. While they seem very equally matched looks like a slight favourite being both a slightly better climber and having a better kick in the end.
20 km and 18’27
The front duo is sharing the workload very evenly in spite of the ridiculous gap.
5 km to go and nothing has happened.
Ndayisenga accelerates on the steep part with 2 km to go.
The only effect is that he enters the final 1,5 km first and as the gradients shortly hits 15 % he starts his final push towards the line.
And there it was!
The remaining five riders stopped pedaling 10 km from the finish line.
