Hong Kong will come with a hilly road race and a flat timetrial: 3 teams, 7 riders..
Compal surely under pressure to deliver at least one title: future superstar Choi and Wu favorites for the road race, Cheung the biggest challenger for Meiji's Kwok in the timetrial!
ASDA's Chan is the first to attack though! A solid puncheur, so quite the expected pressure for Compal early in the race..
Compal reacts quickly: Cheung followed Chan's move a few moments later and caught up soon. The TT-specialist then tried to get rid off Chan several times, as he certainly would fear an uphill sprint against Chan..
..but he couldn't solo away: as the remaining riders gave up on the race, it will come down to a sprint between Chan and Cheung.. the latter already in trouble when Chan accelerates..
With Choi just being considered an outsider, the TT is likely to be a battle between Cheung and Kwok. Will Cheung be more lucky than in the road race?
Looking at the half-time split, it's definitely clear, that it will indeed coming down to either Kwok or Cheung:
Cheung provisional 2nd with just 7" down on Kwok! Choi already 55" slower as third..
Top-favorite Kwok going strong towards the victory though: 10" advantage at the third and final split!
And he brings it home eventually: another runner-up for Cheung, as he finishes as 2nd with 14" disadvantage on Kwok in the end. A tight one, but the favorite delivered and Compal leaves Hong Kong empty-handed!
